I need some help on what to get for thanks you gifts for the mums. My mum has been really helpful (written the invitations, sorted out the flowers and chair cover people) and she's contributing towards the costs. My MIL2B seems really uninterested, barely asks about the wedding and hasn't offered any help (not wanting money, but ANY kind of help?) in any way. She hasn't even bothered to RSVP.

My dilema is, if I get a nice thank you present for my mum do I have to get one for the MIL2B also? I don't want to as she's not interested and I don't feel that I should thank her for doing nothing.

Would it be better to get a present for my mum and give it to in the morning on the day? and not get anything for MIL2B?

I see what you mean, my MIL2B hasnt helped with the wedding as such but she helps me out ALOT with free childcare and house work while Im working. I will be geting her a present even if she doesnt get involved wih the wedding because without her I wouldnt be training to be a nurse right now. She has tried to get involved, I invited her to wedding dress shopping but she was really poorly on the day so she didnt come.

Have you asked H2B what he thinks???

My MIL2B doesn't really have much involvement in our day-to-day lives. She is very self-involved and if there are any family issues she always manages to make it about her. Her sister died a the end of last year, and she wanted h2b to go the funeral in Brighton even though it was a Tuesday and he works in Swansea - we worked it out, it's a five hour drive each way. When he told her he couldn't make it she was really unfair on him and said "but how will it look if none of my kids are there?" NOTHING about the fact she wanted him to drive five hours each way, and she couldn't even put him up for the night!

I haven't asked h2b what he thinks, I'll mention this weekend when he's home.

So you think it's ok if I don't get MIL2B anything?

If it was me I'd give your mum something special on the morning of the wedding, maybe some jewelley. Then give them both the same when giving out thank you gifts, maybe a special flower boquet or something?

That's a good idea. Although (and I know this sounds really mean) I don't want to get MIL2B anything at all, not even a simple bouquet as she's done less than nothing. I have work colleagues who aren't invited to day or evening who are more interested than she is.

Im doing my mum a momento bag, with a poem in which is very appropriate will post it in a min when I find it. Also a little photo book of pics of me and her when I was a child and also pics of my mum with my kids. A few other bits and funny bits. Main present though is a lovely swarovski crystal brooch. They are on bay of e and you can choose the colour of the crystals. I have chosen a deep red crystal sorrounded by clear crystals to match our wedding colours. xxx

    Mum
Through the years you've been there
for all my ups and downs,
    from friendships, boys and homework
    to finding wedding gowns.

I want so much to thank you,
    for all you've given me.
Your care and love and wisdom
    and the lasting memories.

For even though I'm now grown up
    dressed in silk and pearls
    remember this my wedding day
    I'm still your little girl.

    With Love .............

Maybe a good way to solve it would be to you do whatever you want for your mum and leave h2b to sort out his present for his mum...that way if he forgets and she has nothing then its not down to you and he ca't be upset with you for not bothering. xxx

awwww that poem is so lovely. She'd know I hadn't written it as I haven't a creative cell in my body :-)

Stevie, your idea is perfect - I'll get h2b to get the gift for his mum, and I'll sort mine out.

    Thanks girls!

Thats what we are doing....mainly because h2b wont spend more than he has to! He will set a tight limit on his mums, whereas I can get my mum what I want...and he doesnt need to know how much it cost! (-; xx

my MIL2B doesnt seem interested in our wedding either, she hasnt even acknowledged we are getting married and im i feel the same about gifts. my mum hasnt really helped with planning but at least she shows interest and she is watching the kids all day and night for me so im definately going to get her a gift. everyone says we still have to thank MIL2B and get her something and worded it as, she brought your H2B up etc etc.... i think i will give my mum her gift in the morning and just get them both a bouquet of flowers to give after speeches, although i really dont want that, looks like thats what will happen. its just added stress i could do without! lol x

21st October 2011 will be the best day of my life!!!
