Big panic tonight, H2B got a phone call from the church we have booked for the wedding, it would seem that apparantly we dont live in the parish so we couldnt get married at the church. H2B was devastated, his mum and dad and his grandparents got married in the chrch and he said if we couldnt have the church he didnt want to get married anywhere else!! BIG PANIC!!! I rang the vicar back, and had a chat with him, and he finally agreed to let us use the church, i cant believe how close it came to me nearly not getting married!!!!!

I can't believe how many people have had the same experiences - where's the "christianity" in these people?

Glad you got it sorted out :-)

Oh my goodness, we don't live in the same parish as the church we are getting married in. There are ways to do so tho..attend each Sunday for so many weeks. H2B is being baptised there at Easter so that allows us to marry there. Did your church not say you had to go for so many weeks before? x

    found it

"You can marry in a CofE church if you can show:-

    That one of you:

has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
was baptised in the parish concerned or
was prepared for confirmation in the parish or
has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or
That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:

has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or
That one of your parents or grandparents:

    was married in the parish"

as for me i am at a scottish church, and got the long speech about it, but all my minister said was that he had to ask our parish minister for permission to marry us. I am similar to your husband, if i couldn't have the henderson i wouldn't have gotten married in a church.

We booked our wedding in the church in the village where I grew up, we noticed a month ago that it is absolutely covered from top to bottom in scaffolding and we have now found out that it is not due to come down until after the wedding. The Vicar was actually quite rude to me when I inquired about when the scaffolding was coming down and it really upset me! I know it will still be the same church inside and the service will be the same but we are both absolutely gutted, its the first thing both us and all of the guests will see and will also ruin the photos. There are not any other churches nearby villages that we can change to = STRESS!

thank goodness for that! dont forget you will need to have your banns read in your parish church as well as the church in which you intend to marry in, so allow enough time.

Di, you speak to the church but they tend to do it for people who have 'ties' to the church i.e. got baptised, parents got married there, bt chat to the vicar and they will help you. x

oooo don't ask for "permission"!!!!! ask for their blessing. A friend of mine had to do this and the vicar was rather annoyed when "permission" was used. Made a point of saying I don't give permission I give my blessing! opps lol
