Hi everyone! W have decided to get married in august and i am now in a rush to get a dress that really won't break the bank! Iv'e booked in for the sale day at Berketex at the end of the month. Does anyone no what the prices are like there for the sale day and what their service is like in general? Will be my first visit to a wedding shop so I'm a bit nervous. Don't want it to be a bad experience!

Have you tried on any of their dresses to see if you like them before hand? It might make it easier to get an idea of what you are looking for before you go on the sale day. Also check out your other local bridal stores as they usually have sale rales too. I know my shop is in the middle of a major clear out and has loads reduced down at the moment.

we have chose the 20th august so we really don't have long! Friends and family are doing the cake, photography and some othe bits so we are lucky there. The church is sorted. The wedding reception is proving the problem. We can't afford to do a big sit down meal and our wedding time is late afternoon so we thought we would hire a hall and do food and drinks ourselves and have a big buffet??? What do you think. We have nearly 100 people so far. Too many decisions!lol Have you sorted a lot of yours? xx

cant comment on the sale side but I do know they are helpful. they are crafty with offers though as they make the offers run for few days at a time to pressure you into buying.

cant wait to be Mrs Evans less than 3 weeks woooo
    start weight 10st 1.5 lbs
    weight now 8st 4.5 lbs
total loss to date: 24.5 lbs now need to maintain!

Your doing well so far ! i think the buffet sounds like a good idea the sit down meals are so expensive especially with large numbers like you have !! you can get so many bargains off a certain auction site to decorate the hall and make it suit your colour scheme !
We have loads done already i have my organised head on for the first time ever haha shocking everyone...
i have my dress, the church and venue sorted, kilts sorted, flowers sorted, friends doing the cake as his gift, another friend the photos (shes a professional tog and doing them as her wedding gift), another friend doing the djing as his gift, we are making the invitations, place cards, table plan, thank you cards and favours ourselves too not made all these yet but have all the stuff for it and done mock ups of them all.
think thats all so far lol

wow your nearly done! Did u go for a sit down meal? I've been looking on there for decorations so will order soon. We are going to make all our own bits too! Just not sure about the colour scheme yet nd I havnt picked the bridesmaids dresses yet because I have 6 to please!lol So many choices to choose from it makes it so hard to decide anything! I think I need to find my organising head! The htb is very laid back and calm which doesn't help lolxx

yeah i surprised myself writing it all down actually dine more than i realised also remembered ive also got my tiara jewellery shoes, bridesmaid gifts, guest book and my grans making me a wooden wishing well !
yeah we are having a sit down meal we have less guests for the meal than you though we've managed to cut down to 60 we were debating hiring a hall and doing a buffet untill my dad announced it was his job to pay and he wasnt taking no for an answer, without his help we would have a much tighter budget so been really lucky :)
its a lot more personal making your own plus easier to have everything matching :)
my colour scheme is (depending on where you look) dark/jade green, pale silver and ivory. theres so many colours to chose from thats the difficult part !
wow 6 dress shopping will be interesting lol ! im having two and matching them is hard enough for me! :)
oh i'll send some of mine over my organised head is on overdrive at the moment im usually the most unorganised/last min type of person ever !
haha its a male thing mine is the same you ask his advice/opinion he says he says yeah whatever you think, i trust your judgement (easy way out? lol)

I went to the Berketex Bride sale day in Glasgow last year and it was the worst experience of my life. I had a very early appointment but they did not have any dresses at their advertised £99, instead they tried to put me into full price dresses. There were 3 small rooms with around 6 brides, all their bridesmaids and family etc crammed in them and we were all trying on dresses. It was pandamonium. The lady also tried to squeeze me into dresses that were around 4 sizes too small for me and I was embarrassed with all these other people around me. I was rushed around all day and didn't even get to see the dresses properly far less have time to appreciate what I was wearing. All in all it was a nightmare.

However, this is just my experience hun and please don't be put off by it. I just thought I would give you my memories of the day. You may have a better time than me though hun (I hope you do) and find the dress of your dreams. xxx

wow Alana! Thats amazing! I think I need to get sorted! I Think once I have hired the hall I can then sort out decorations and a DJ and a whole pile of other things! My sister has recently got engaged too so I look forward to the day when I can be bridesmaid and don't need to sort all of this stuff out!lol
NHR115 sorry you had such a bad time there. There are so many mixed reviews on the place that it makes me doubt going. I just have to cross my fingers and hopefully it will be ok! Would be great to find the dress straight away!lol One less thing to think about. Did you find the dress you wanted in the end?xx

my bridesmaids dresses are from Berketex. I got them on this 'Friends go free' offer it was 3 dresses for the price of 2.

we wouldnt have been able to afford them without the deal - i have had only good experiences with Berketex to be honest! :)

but i have not experienced their sale day but they do seem to have sale dresses all the time - so may be worth going before the sale day

My tiara is meant to be from Berketex although if they still haven't ordered it I'm demanding my money back and going elsewhere.

Basically what happened was I ordered a tiara and paid in full in November and the sales assistant said it would arrive in Jan/Feb.

I did phone mid Jan as I had a missed called on landline and mobile but it was a withheld number and all I was told was that my tiara hadn't arrived and they'd ring when it does.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and I'm ringing them again as it's Feb and was told they haven't even ordered it in as they only do this 4/6 weeks before the wedding. At which point I almost exploded. I turned round and stated what I was told originally for the sales person to then state 4/6 weeks. So I turned round and told her to get it ordered as I've paid for it and I want it so I can sort out my hair now not 4/6 weeks before the wedding which is too late for me, in which she replied they'd order it.

Sometime this week my H2B is going into the store to find out whether its been ordered and to get a date when it will turn up in the shop to collect. So if they tell him it's still not arrived we will get a refund and go elsewhere.

So you can tell I'm not impressed by their service.

yeah once you get the hall booked it will all start to come together and you still have plenty of time to get organised, fingers crossed that after your trip to berketex you'll have another thing ticked off :)

Aw that'll be nice to be able to be involved and enjoy a wedding without all the stress of organising it haha :)

NHR115 was it the berketex in Debenhams you had the problems with?

God knows what they will be like if I do eventually order a dress from there! Read so many forums about them and a lot of people had problems receiving their items so thats probably not a good sign! Hope you get your tiara eventually! It's awful waiting for something to turn up.
Alana I'm seeing the priest on monday to confirm final details and then we have (or i have) just decided to book this nice pub in the city. They only open weekends for private functions and that way I won't have to deal with too much! Don't think I can take all of the decorating decisions. lol Only thing is we have to put lots of money behind the bar to last the night. They will do catering for us too. Hopefully this will all be confirmed next week and then I can relax and just find the dress!
Thanks for all your help ladies xx

just so everyone doesn't need to pay for drinks. At least for a while anyway! Not sure how people will feel having to pay for drinks in the end but theres not much else we can do. It's hard finding somewhere local to hire where we can do all our own xx

where are you having your ceremony is it a church or registry office? the reason im asking is our chapel offered their hall for our reception. but i think the pub you've found sounds lovely!
As for the money dont worry about people not being happy about paying for their own drinks most weddings ive been to we've had to pay our own, if they really want to be part of your day they wont care either way ! we wont be providing drinks at the reception at all we're only providing one on arrival and for speeches we're paying the meals thats enough lol (oops that sounds so tight not how i meant it lol !) xx
