Why is that when it comes to weddings venues feel thay can charge the earth and that money is no object? My H2B and I are both getting married for the second time, so there is little is any financial help from the parents as they have done it all the first time round. we are having start from stratch and with no savings its turning into a nightmare and is getting very stressful. some of the "deals" we have seen look, at first glance, really good but then you start adding the little bits they have missed off that will make the day at little nicer and the cost soars.

so we are having to rethink everything. the main thing is the reception. What are your views/opinions on the following. we are planning a late afternoon wedding on a Friday and we will then go straight into the evening reception with no wedding breakfst just a running buffet for those that came to the wedding AND the ones coming to the evening - killing two dinners with one sausage roll so to speak.

another question - we are therefore not hiring a "proper" hotel venue but a social club which we now have to decorate ourselves. what are peoples opinions on the bride and groom seeing each other on the morning of the wedding in their normal clothes, not the wedding outfits to work together to decorate their reception. i dont want him to get off scot free with not helping out but then tradition is that we dont see each other the dayof the wedding until the ceremoney - i am so confused.

so much in my head i think it is going to explode.

Hi hon, I have girlfriend who I wanted as a BM but know that she'l have too much on her hands as a mum of a toddler - if not pregnant again, so I have asked her to make sure that the venue is up to my standards, as a sort of wedding co-ordinator. It will also be her job to ring me to let me know that h2b has arrived so that I can set off without worrying that he'l be late.

As for a late wedding and a rolling bufet, why wouldn't it work. You may have to fight your corner a bit, as I have found that although family & friends say your wedding your way, as soon as you deviate from the norm, many people have strong opinions and have the opportunity to tell you your ideas are crap! Just organise what you want, then tell them. That way no-one will complain.

    I'm now a married woman
    I have a gorgeous husband
    Whats to do now
Theres no more wedding planning to do

Unfortunately not as they charge £20 an hour from the minute you set foot in until you leave, they would count that as a continuace hire from the night before until everyone leaves after the wedding - bummer or what!

My friends found it wierd I answered the phone to my now-husband on my wedding morning- he wouldn't of rang if it wasn't important! And it was about venue decoration- he couldn't remember where he had put some.

I could write so much here, but will keep it short for everyone's sake! For our London reception, we are hiring a restaurant locally and have to decorate ourselves. This is where my mum and Godmother come in. Although I know our tastes differ, they are taking on this, but with very strict boundries - no lace and absolutely no doilies!!!
They'll do that Sat morning before our informal blessing (we'll have actually gotten married a month earlier in Vegas) in the afternoon and then heading to the restaurant.
Is there a friend or family member that can take on the decoration for you, that you would trust to do it how you'd like? You could even supply them with basic drawings, maybe? x

we also are having an afternoon ceremony and then an evening reception with a buffet, we have to decorate the room ourselves and been told we can go there from 9.30 in the morn,so we have come up with 2 options... 1) H2B and a couple of family go in the morn to do most of it, then a little later myself and my eldest daughter go and finish off and make sure everything is right, or 2) just ask a couple of family who we know would love to, to go and do it and just hope its how we want it. i suggested that me and H2B just meet there and do it together than go our separate ways until the ceremony but he just laughed at that idea.
like dove said... your wedding=your way so you have to do want you want and sod everyone else lol x

21st October 2011 will be the best day of my life!!!

Why don't you just do the decoration with some friends or family? I knew somebody who hired a function room and she decorated it lovely, proof you didn't need a fancy hotel, they're lovely if you have the money but if not something like what you mentioned can be made perfect too.

hi hun we are having the same kind of problems its the second time for us and i think stuff tradition it didnt do me any good the first time round lol me and my oh are spending the night before the wedding together in our own house we have hired a local village hall from the council which a bit of decoration but they also charge by the hour we have it from 12 till 12 the wedding is at three so my oh is running me to my sisters house then taking them to the hall to deal with ballon bouquets etc as you only 12 hours from the helium you cant blow them up any earlier we are having a sit down meal but only because we have and amazing caterer my friend got married a few years back and she had a afternoon wedding then a reception in the evening with a buffet it was a great night my oh informs me that a lot of his family and friends have only the buffet that is ongoing so i think your day will work out perfectly as long as you are both happy then thats all that matters anyone who feels the need to complain about the lack of a sit down meal should be told that you would love one would they like to pay for it if so you think it would make a lovely gift from them if not then they should keep their thoughts to themselves lol best of luck hun xxx

we looked around as we are also getting married for the 2nd time and parents wont contribute as they feel the paid for the 1st marriage etc.....
Im having a Rugby club for my reception... The food is unbelievably cheap..
Im having a 3 course sit down meal all for £600...

they have agreed that if i bring in the decs on the fri afternoon, they will decorate for me, in with this price they are handing out Bucks Fizz or wine when everyone gets there..... also im using all the glasses cuttlery etc etc, so what im saying is have a word with the Social Club where you are having it and tell them that money is tight and is there a chance they can keep the costs down...

    Good luck! xx

We are doing the same Fi to cut costs but it will still be an amazing day as it is what we want. Hiring a lovely hall and decorating it ourselves, though we get to have it for a few hours the day before to do all the big things, and we are doing a great buffet ourselves through h2b work, so although there is no "traditional" wedding breakfast, it will still be a great day. I am making paper pom-poms too to decorate as they look amazing and they are really cheap to make, saves money on buying loads of flowers which can be really expensive. Good luck with your planning! :) x
