We may have to wait another year unless i can think of some ways of making some money. I am at home looking after the kids while h2b works but he doesn't earn an awful lot. I am sitting here working out the budget and unless we can save at least £60 a week, i don't think we will have enough. When i originally budgeted i was working nights but it became to much, i was too tired and taking it out on everyone around me. I don't know what to do, if i change the date now, i won't lose any money but if we carry on and we don't have enough i will. Arghhhhh. But i really don't want to :( . Its already 17 months away and my grandad isn't all that well and i really want him to be there.
    Sorry for my rant

That is an awful dilemma! Could you cut back anywhere so you can keep the same date? There is no point taking on extra work if it is affecting you and your family. It is even worse when family members are not well. My favourite and much loved Aunty is 99 in 2 weeks time and rings me all the time to see if we have set the date bless her!

Have you looked at maybe having a different style venue or saving on things by doing them yourself where you can?

I know how much you want your granddad to be there so if this is the main thing about you getting married sooner rather than later perhaps you could put a list of all the things you want and prioritise them for you big day then work backwards to see how you can save money or cut costs so that it is possible next year when you want it to be

Good luck hun - keeping my fingers crossed you can stick to your original date! xxx

How about getting the little ones from ebay then the older ones from the high street? Who says bridsmaid dresses have to come from expensive shops? Get them a nice dress that they can wear again.

Mrs clarke I'm the same. If we really can't do it next year I'll have to push it to 2013 which I don't want :( if only I live near you I'd do your photos as I'm looking at getting into photography and want some experience and build my portfolio. The photo of my h2b and my daughter on my album which looks like as if done from a studio was only done by me. Have you got any friends who are good at photography, so that you don't have to hire one? I am also laking at skipping the photographer but I'm 50/50 about it cos you can't recreate your day so need some good quality pictures however some apparently does their photoshoots after the wedding on a chosen venue which works out cheaper cos you're not hiring the professional photographer for hours.

Sorry I meant *looking not laking :) also everyone knows how skint we are so I'm thinking of asking my bm's to pay for their dress although I'm going to choose them something that they think they can still wear afterwards while still following my theme. That way it's like they're buying a dress as per usual but wearing it first on my wedding day...

Life sucks at times! Why does a wedding have to be so expensive? If its any consolation I went to a friends wedding where she had no money and she made it small and got everyone to participate (friends to make dresses, do make up hair etc). You would be surprised how many friends can sew, make a cake and when you get them all together the outcome is amazing as to how many are willing to help.Have to admit it was the best wedding I have ever been to.

I read on here that someone is doin the WHOLE LOT for £2000... look for the thread hun n read how shes doing it!

you can get round a photographer if you really cant afford one... Digi cameras are brilliant and nearly everyone has one nowadays... get the all to take pics, send them to your email address... and im sure you will be able to fine 30 pics to make up an album.. we was gonna do this, but has managed to find a real cheap photographer..

    good luck hun xx

can you not explain to your bm the problem and say although you would love them to be involved you cant afford the dresses anymore and they can either pay for them theirselves or not be a bm. i am sure they would understand and as trish said so many people have digital cameras i am sure you can make do without the photographer. just remember the reason you are getting married in the first place and everything else is just extra
    xx

The most important thing about the day is the 2 of you. Having several BMs, photgraphers, matching suits/dresses, 3 tier wedding cakes, etc etc etc are just extras. I've been speaking with family and friends who got married as little as a year ago to over 40 years ago and what they all remember from their wedding days were things like; the looks on each others faces when they said their vows, other lil moments between them (things like them smiling/winking at each other every so often from across the room when they were doing the rounds), and having their closest-n-dearest there - not 1 of them mentioned anything about room/table decorations or flowers or dresses!!

And if you've got as bad a memory as me ask everyone to send you all the pics they take so you have something to look at when you sat together in your twilight years :-D

I understand your worries hun, Could you not just have your little ones as BM but ask your sis and BF to participate in some other way? I'm onnly having my sis as BM but have asked my oldest friend (of 27 years!) to sign the register and my other friend (of 15 years) to do a reading during the ceremony...I was chief BM for both of these friends, and my H2B and I are god parents to both their children, however they know how tight our budget is and that I still love them dearly...Just because you don't ask them to be BM doesn't mean they still can't contribute to your day.

    It's an option anyway.

Oh and one more thing...friends of ours set up a wedding website which they put details on and saved on sending invites.

get a set of blank cds and put them on your tables... each of your guests can take them home and put their pictures of the day on them and send them back to you, my friend done that and got some absolutely stunning shots :) Also ebay for bridesmaids dresses is really good, even for adult ones... my friend bought her bridesmaid dresses long aline style for £30.00 each from china.... they are gorgeous!!

Good luck hun, id hate to have to think i had my heart set on our date and then have to think about changing it... good luck xxx

Ooh and some more ideas - another friend had the men wear their own suits and just bought the same tie for them all...

Go to a makeup counter for a trial (and freebies)

Get a good family friend or someone to take your pics...my BF has 2 of her favourite photos framed in her living room - neither of which were taken by her photographer

And lastly - we're just getting a digital package from our photographer and putting the pics in a photobook album ourselves - can do this online for £40 ish!
