arrrgghhh sorry ladies just need a moan! I am so fed up of money money money! everythin i seem to look at 4 anything wedding related is sooo expensive we are on a really tight budget like £1000 or preferably less! we have no savings left as we moved in to our 1st house and had a baby at the same time (wasn't planned to work out like that lol) so obviously that spent every last penny then, is anyone else in same situation? and if so what have you done to cut costs? I've planned on makin my own cake, gettin artificial flowers, i still want it to be special! :( xxxx

You can make it special without having to spend loads. Have you friends who can help out with skills etc? I would keep it small and intimate so you can use your money wisely. Most of budgets go on feeding people so choose your fave restaurant or pub to go and celebrate in after.

It can be done that cheaply! Wedding dress off ebay, or from charity shop (Oxfam have specialist bridal shops), bridesmaids could contribute to their dresses (or not have any bridesmaids anyway!), hand made invitations (did ours for under £15 and hand delivered most of them to save on postage!), enlist the help of anyone you know/family to make cake, do flowers, provide a smart wedding car, hire a village hall and decorate it yourself with home-made bunting and cheap balloons and ribbons, find a cheap venue rather than an expensive one - our venue hire is just £200 and the cheapest buffet option is just £7.25 a head. Keep guest numbers to a minimum for the daytime and have a late afternoon wedding so you dont have to provide two buffets/meals! Lots of different options for feeding people these days, hog roast, fish and chip van (! honestly), cream teas and sandwiches. One of the best weddings I have been to was a marquee in my grans back garden when my aunty got married, my gran and her friends made all the food, few bottles of wine, tea and coffee, stereo system for dancing, cake made by a friend and it was absolutely brilliant! It was all about the marriage and not all about the wedding, if you get what I mean! So it can be done xx

you can even ask people to pay for their meals it is not the norm but if you are having close friends and family then they should know your money situation and should not have a problem paying for their meal

ahh thanks ladies, and yes your right jane it is all about the marrige, thats all i wanted was to get married, not have a big fuss, i think its because im feeling pressure from my famand friends.. me and h2b both have HUGE fam's and its a case of people gettin in a mood if there not invited to the whole day... plus all my fam bar my dad, bro and sis live 180miles away which is makin me feel guilty about only inviting them to the evening, and i know i shouldnt and this is horrible to say... but 3 of my friends are getting married too and lets just say... they arn't havin any struggles... and i sort of wanna show u can have a beautiful wedding without spending an arm and a leg, i feel like they feel pity for me because i havent got the sort of money they have and its making me feel like i have 2 perform?? i know that sounds awful and i shouldnt be thinking like that xx

Darling don't feel guilty about not inviting everyone. Neil's family and friends are all from Devon but we can't afford to invite them all for the ceremony and evening event so most of them are only being invited for the evening. We think we may get a few declines but if they want to be there then they won't mind either way. You'll be fine hun and it most definitely can be done. xxx

We are in the same boat hun. H2B lost his job last month and we have literally NO savings for the wedding so are trying to do it all on benefits.
I got my dress for £80, shoes for £30 and rings (including engraving) for just under £100 (you can get cheaper but we wanted something unusual) all from Bay of E, my jewellery and tiara for £27 (pics on my profile, all made specifically for me and can give you the link if you like?), MIL made our invitations, a friend is making the cake, another friend is doing my hair, another is doing my make-up and nails, FIL is doing pics of the service and posed pics after (we are getting disposable cameras for the reception) and my auntie is doing the catering.
As for the flowers, we are going to buy some from the supermarket the day before and make the bouquets by tying them with some ribbon to match our colour scheme. Would be cheaper than artificial ones.
There is a discussion on this site just for wedding bargains too so you may be able to get some good ideas there.
Good luck hun, you can do it. xxxxx
