so i wanted to get measured for a new bra today. i went into one shop last week to get measured and the woman didnt seem to know what she was doing. went into one today and she said i should go to a 30D where as now i am wearing a 32B. i thought that is quite a difference so went somewhere else and she has said i am 32C so i am so confused!!

has anyone else had this problem. does any shop know how to measure you properly?
    xx

The difference is whether or not they add to your band size, and if so how much because it can vary greatly - and in fact a 30D and 32C are about the same cup size, so it's just which band size you feel more comfortable wearing. I was under the belief that I was a 34D, until I tried a 36DD which was far more comfortable - although now I'm losing weight that will be going back down again!

i didnt know that a 30D and 32C would be the same. I am amazed that i could be a D cup. 2 out of 3 places i have been to have said that i am inbetween a 30 and 32.

i looked in la senza and b h s but neither seemed to do bra in 30D. xx

The Fantasie girls are supposed to be the best in the business, so my friend says anyway. They will always try to get you in the smallest back size, so naturally your cup size will go up too (which is a real boost to small busted ladies, but can see how this may not appeal to some larger busted ladies!).
If you google Fantasie, you can find your nearest store, but in London I know they reside in Selfridges for a start.
I'm actually going underwear shopping with said friend next Saturday, so should be interesting to see what size I come out then!

I used to manage a lingerie dept in selfridges in Manchester, I strongly recommend dept store lingerie depts as they have a wide range of brands. Like with other clothes you will find your size varies with each brand.

i think all places measure differently, i was wearing a 38D and when i got measured i found out i was a 38G!!! I knew that my bra's were slightly small but didnt realise how much, and now im so much more comfortable and my back and shoulders don't hurt as much x

its not really hun, 2bh and all shops bras are different sizes :( which just adds 2 the confusion

when i get measured im a 32E, but if i cant get that size in the shop then they tell you 2 go up a back size and down a cup.. therefore i would be 34DD... so your 30D would go to 32C so thats 1 cup size out...

    hope that makes sense

yeh thats the hard part, small backs n big cups always difficut, as the girls said bravissimo altho they are lil bit expensive i usually find debenhams do all sizes and the prices vary there red herring range good for everyday n it something like £14 for 2, check there website :)

It all depends on the bra to what size you need. There is no right or wrong size as such. The lady in M&S showed me what to look for when trying them on. How the back should be and how the cup should sit. I've tried the same brand, same size bra on and one fitted me lovely yet the next one in the same brand and size didn't. All you can do is try each one on and make sure that it sits right on you. Also they more expensive and well made the bra that smaller the size you need for some reason. Does it really matter what it says on your bra? They are still the same boobs.

Whilst I agree with the principle, Jo, in practice it's really annoying. It means that if you want to buy a bra online, for example, you're never sure if it will fit. This happened to me when I ordered some bridal lingere and I was really frustrated!

I know its annoying. I tried on one bra and then picked up another because the first one fitted so well and was annoyed when I went to put it on and it was nothing like the other one. I never buy online now as I'm sick of sending them back.

i have been wearing a 32b for years but know i was between a b/c cup depending on the bra. i went to house of fraser and got told i am a 30d. i have been looking it up on the internet. if you go down a back size you have to go up a cup size!! i dont mind thinking that i am a 30D!

i phoned my mum about it and she said the same. she has worn a 34B for years and went and and got measured. she is now wearing a 36A and she said it is so much more comfy, so i should try differnet size! just got to find a shop that does it xx

they all measure u differently so u will fit a differnet size in different shops, at least thats what ive always found! if u get measured in a shop get them to give u bras to try on in that size and sizes around till u find one that fits! if it fits, buy it, dont worry about the size!

hi mrsbarkertobe i was in the same boat as you been walking around thinking i was a 34b then went and got measured became a 32dd or 30e depending on which bra was picked and that was in m&s it really depends on the bra style you pick, i stared at the woman when she said 30e cos when i look at myself there's not a great deal there compared to those 30e bra wearing models. sometimes the big brand stores make their bra's slightly smaller to make you feel better about yourself and to get you to spend more money on a bra! However, since been remeasured i feel so much more comfortable and supported xx

*Kate* that's exactly what happened to me - I was wearing 34b's and shop told me I was 32DD! I couldn't believe it and thought she was making it up, but she brought me a bra that size and it fit soooo much better. And more importantly, I discovered that with underwire bra's, the 34B's had the wire sticking into my breast tissue which is not good, and the 32DD actually sat with the wire in the right place.

She did tell me though that bras are just like clothes, every brand will size slightly differently and you have to try them all on. My sports bra I bought is a 34D for example.

I swear by bravissimo too, I have given up trying to buy bras elsewhere now. I actually think they have got a little bit mire reasonable in price to when I first started shopping with them. I still always go to the shop though rather than buying online or catalogue as I like to get measured each time make sure they fit. I was a 30F/32E for ages but after having my girls they keep changing. 32G at present and I expect them to change again if i lose weight x

I have to admit M&S are my fave. They do the more expensive fancy ones for something special and then do a nice everyday range which are still pretty but at £5 a bra you can't complain and they last ages. I would say I throw mine out because of the colour rather than them failing on me.

I always buy two pairs of knickers for each bra as most of the time I'm not sweaty enough to need to change my bra every day. That way I always have matching underwear.
