It doesn't matter if the music is longer than the walk as they can either fade it out or just keep it running a little longer while you say hi to the h2b etc.

yeah dont worry bout the music length, plus with little ones walking up too it should take up some time

plus they usually play it just before you walk too so that gives you a few seconds then too! :D x

Just a thought why don't you go to the venue and time how long it takes you to walk down at a slow bridal pace? It will give you more of an idea then.

I'm in the same boat. We are having Pachabel's canon played by a string quartet so they can't fade out but i don't know how long it goes on for or how long it will take for bridal party to walk in.

I'm sure with it being a live band they can find a break point in the music once you are ready to start. They must be used to having to do that. Maybe you should ask them what they do about that etc?

Hi YourFirstdanceBride! I'm a cellist and have played Pachelbel's canon lots of times as the processional. The brilliant thing about it (apart from being beautiful!) is that it's really easy for the string quartet to stop at almost any point (it's based on a two-bar bass line so can be stopped every two bars if that makes sense). It's a few minutes long so there will be plenty of time for everyone to walk in as well. As XjoX says, even with other pieces, an experienced quartet will be able to find a place in the music where it sounds ok to stop so they can fit around you.

oh god something else to worry about. Ok if I'm having a piper, but I'm thinking of Suddenly by Sam Clark (I'm a total Neighbours geek) and they cant very well just hit the stop button when I get to the top! i'll have to go and practice, and work out when to start walking!
