Just found out today that a lot of people's redundancies will come into effect on April 1st which I knew about.

Our department is set to merge with our local authority from that date also and so we are due to change offices and merge with other bases etc. Not such a big deal till you know the rest.

We have all been told that our jobs will be safe for at least another year and that no major changes will be implemented till we hear more from the council and what their plans are for us. So what do I find out today? Only that it will be at the council's discretion how many staff they keep and if they already have enough staff for the people and areas they currently work in they could make additional redundancies of our staff from 1st april 2011 not 2012!

What if I get laid off? I won't be able to get married and I now have a mortgage to pay! I am so stressed and angry right now! x

I know how you feel hun, when I got made redundant we'd been assured a couple of months before that our jobs were safe for atleast the next few years and then got the redundancy notice.

fingers crossed, i got told over the phone while in a pub, i was goin to dominican few weeks later ( Where h2b proposed- so bet he was thinkin double pants lol) NHS and Council dont think of any1s feelins etc! fingers crossed but if i was u , keep an eye out 4 a job!

Its all very sad, when I did my nurse training it was said to be a job for life, pretty much the most secure job you could get..... so untrue.

If I were you I would take out a separate insurance policy that protects you from redundancy. I used to have it when I had my house. It means if you are made redundant then they will still pay your mortgage payments each month and you can get others (cst a bit more) that help give you a income for a set period of time. It may be wise to check them out before things are said and made final.
