Since I got engaged my mum has been at best unenthusiastic and at worst downright b*tchy.. This afternoon I thought I would try and build a few bridges (we've never really got on but I've had to move back home recently to save for the wedding) and ask her if she wanted to come dress shopping with me. Her reply was some furious rant implying I was a selfish cow, that my wedding isnt the centre of everyones earth and didnt I know that she already has a lot on her plate, and finished by saying outright that I only wanted her to come so she could pay for the dress (She has been made extremely aware from the beginning that we are funding this wedding ourselves and dont need, want or expect a penny from anyone). Then later she humiliated me in front of her mate by trying to poke my belly, which I am painfully self conscious about, and telling me I'd never fit into anything nice if I didnt lose some weight.
Sorry for the rant ladies, usually its water off a duck's back but she grinds me down occasionally and I cant vent on Facebook cos of all her spies!!

awww hun i feel for you i really do id just leave her too it it not woth her doing that to you especially if you're dress shopping id gladly lend you mine haha we actually agreed on my dress and our dress sense doesnt usually mix haha xx id take a trusted friend instead or your bms!! I hope you get it sorted tho you can do without that as weddings are stressful enough!! hugs for you xx

Ooh, thats awful, I hope you're not letting it get to you too much, but I know it can be hard when it's constant :-/. You can share my fmil, she's amazing! My mum is too, but she can get a bit much sometimes and i dont think you need that right now ;)

I wouldnt mind but I'm not exactly massive, just have a bit of a mummy tummy. 3 out of 5 bridesmaids live abroad lol, 1 is my sister in law (who bloomin invited herself as bridesmaid anyway) and the last one is a stay at home mum and lives ages from me, so it looks like I'm going shopping on my own!

Bless you hun, I had problems with my mum too when we first started planning the wedding, but I had a word with her about how much she upset me and she's being really good about it now. Hope you manage to get it sorted soon x

You can have my mum if you like, she is a major hypochondriac and will probably have a leg/arm/ear (delete as appropriate) falling off or might have cancer/brain tumour/menopause so won't be able to make it to the wedding. Not only that you get the added bonus of hearing all about her headache/dodgy tummy/ear infection/flu/periods whenever you see her or talk to her!!! lol.
In all seriousness though, is there anything that could be on her mind?? If someone said to me that the world is not centred around me and my wedding, I would take it to mean that there is something she was upset about?? How is she around you when you are not talking about the wedding?? xxx

We basically hate eachother lol always have done, believe me if there was something even remotely interesting going on with her the whole world would know about it, she keeps us all VERY up to date with her health (often to the point of too much information!) so I feel your pain with the hypochondriac thing. Even her sister thinks she's a bit of a nightmare, to put it politely! x

I would be sympathetic if it was not at the point where she used to spend 3 weeks out of each month in bed while only using regular pads whereas at my worst, I would have to change a superplus tampon AND night pad after 2 hours!!!! lol. (sorry if TMI. lol)

I used to live with my auntie but its not practical now I have my little one, she'd take me in tomorrow but she only has a tiny little one bedroom flat, and I'd never get to see my other half :( we only get one evening a week together as it is. Thanks for all the suggestions and offers of everyones mums, you have all made me see this in a much better light - I'm just gonna try and pity her for not having the emotional capacity to share her only daughter's big day! Miasmummy I am loving the idea of my dress being my secret :) x

Share with everyone else about your day and just tell your mum that it's up to her if she wants to come to your wedding or not then just don't mention anything about the wedding to her unless she asks. xxx

I dont lol I learnt that one the hard way, first time she saw my ring she said "thats a bit small isnt it? Makes your fingers look fat". You just gotta laugh sometimes havent you :) I do all my wedding discussing with my aunt who has been a star x
