Hope this is the right place to post but a couple of people have asked us what do we want for a wedding presant as me and my h2b allready live together now i collect waterford crystal, royal crown derby and coalport figurnes now there very pricey and i know i cant be cheeky and ask for that but ideally id like some money towards it as thats what i like but is that too cheaky and i should say i dont mind and be greatful for what i get, ive been collecting it for years and have a local shop that gives us good discount and lets me pay off on things but im stuck lol

We are the same and just explaining to people that we already have everything so we are leaving it up to them to decide if they want to leave us a cash donation, find something they think we might like or if they are skint they don't have to do anything.

Personally i think a wedding gift should be for both of you, so money towards a honeymoon or something for the house (we are asking for money towards new beds for us all and/or a sofa) like a kettle, toaster etc that you would BOTH use is acceptable i think.
But asking for money towards something you collect is a little cheeky! BUT thats just MY opinion!

I think most people will just give us money. We have decided that as we are getting married abroad we could use whatever we get to put towards a holiday/alone honeymoon for our 1st wedding anniversary.

If I was you I would ask for money towards something a little more practical, dont think I would want to contribute my hard earned cash towards collectables to be honest, would rather it went on something that I knew would truly benefit the two of you. For example, you said the other day your bed had been ruined by the damp conditions in your house and you put the pics on here.... how about asking for contributions towards a great new bed as Hails is doing - would certainly be more useful to you at the moment than ornaments hun. As for us, we are just saying if people want to pop a few euros in an envelope for our honeymoon that would be great. Hope things are moving for you on the housing front by the way x

yes but theres no point me replaceing beds ect untill i get a house as im only getting my self a cheap bed as theres 4 of us in a 1bed flat so i cant really have anything for my house untill i get one so if i ask for beds and cabinets and kitchen table ect what i want i have no room to put it expect for in a shed when it would get damp and damaged

We're going to be registering at a major department store for kitchen and house things - although we've been living together for three years and we both flew the nest at 18 there are a lot of things that we would still like to have around the house but never get around to buying - nice pictures for the walls for example - and other things that we want to replace - a new set of pans would come in really handy and some bakeware too since I spend a lot of time cooking!

We are asking for money if anyone wants to give it, but no pressure to. As we already live together and have everything for the house, we would like any contributions to go towards our honeymoon. :)

I've left it up to both families they know we've got everything as we lived together for nearly 6 years and with the house fire most things have been replaced just said vouchers for major department stores would be better than the money then we can spend it on something we both want but also stated that because were spending 21 days in american for honeymoon if people wanted to contribute towards us doing something over there it would be grand e.g. swimming with dolphins x

I just put a little poem in with the invitation explaining that we had everything we needed for the house so a few euros for our honeymoon would be ideal if they wanted to give a gift, but most importantly we just want them at our wedding. That sort of thing!

We have put this in with the invites......

We lived together before this wedding
So we have a home, full of toasters and bedding
So what to get for the bride & groom
Whose house is set up in every room?
To save you looking, shopping and buying,
Here's an idea you might like trying!
We need new mattresses for us and the kids
and a sofa to sit upon too,
But registering for huge items isn't the thing to do
So please put some money into a card,
Now make a wish.... see, that wasn't hard!
Now we've saved you all the fuss,
We hope you'll come and celebrate with us!
A wishing well will be at the reception hall
To deposit your wishes... Thanks and love to you

We are also going to be asking for money, as we've lived together for 5 years now, and the only house related stuff we need is larger items which are too expensive for just one person to buy.

if you do ask for money by the time the wedding comes around you may be moving house anyway so you can then use the money to buy the parctical stuff like bed and such

We've not finalised anything yet but I think we're going to do a gift list. We have only rented furnished houses so it would be nice to be able to buy our own things. xxx

You can always leave the money in the bank until you move etc. It doesn't have to be spent the moment you have it.
