Only this morning I was saying how I feel amazing in my dress and that I'm only trying to diet to feel confident.. well, day 1 of the diet has gone bad. I've stuck to it but done no exercise and I just wanted to eat :-( I cant imagine myself loosing no where near how much I want to loose in 9 months. I feel like giving up at the moment. Stress! I dont want to look back at my wedding pictures and be upset with myself. Don't know what to do?

you have got loads of time. i have a stone heavier than I was when I bought by dress, and it was only a tiny bit tight then, but still gave me one of those back bums. So I need to lose that weight and an extra stone. Ideally i would love to lose 2.5 stones. and 9months is LOADS of time! My diet didnt go well either, in the first week i had KFC and a chinese. Need to get back on it pronto!

If I loose weight, not only will I feel and look better on my wedding day but it should help with me getting treatment for conceiving as I cant do it naturally and at the moment, GPs wont even look at me till I've lost weight. I havent even any rubbish today like I normally would but I havent exercised, I've sat on my bum from the time I woke up till now. Doesnt help that Im out of work! And I just cant see me getting to where I want to be in 9 months, I feel like its impossible!

You will always crave what you deny yourself so make sure your diet includes little treats rather than splurging on a chinese or whatever. Here are a few things that help me, matbe they can help you too. When I go shopping I make sure I'm not hungry and I don't buy anything I would hate myself for eating. If it's not there you can't eat it! I have also found some really tasty swaps that you could try so you can fulfil your cravings without going overboard. I love the shape delight desserts they are really chocolately and filling and they're not bad for you. Also in Aldi they sell multipacks of the little Ritter Sport chocolates - loads of different flavours and only four squares in each bar so you can eat one and not feel guilty. The new McVities medley bars are amazing - chocolate and digestive and nuts yummy! and again not so bad for you as a chocolate bar. I also make homemade soup which is so healthy and filling. Most Nestle green banner cereal are healthy even chocolate shreddies so that's a good start to the day then loads of veggies and lean meat for dinner. I hope you find your inspiration soon hun. I understand exactly how you feel and hope I can get to my target weight and not regret things when I look back at my wedding pics. We'll get there!xxx

Those tips are really handy, thank you! I've started the biggest loser diet, milkshake for breakfast and lunch and then a healthy meal for dinner but I was craving food all day :-( I don't even know if its going to work. I need to cut out all the crap, exercise and stop feeling sorry myself. Even if I dont get to my target weight, just changing my lifestyle will make me feel so much better. I'm hoping I can do it :-) thanks for your help xx

I think you have answered it yourself - cut out the cra p, exercise more and start getting a positive mental attitude!!!!! Ok maybe easier said than done especially if you are stressing about trying for a baby.
Ive tried slimming clubs and altho they work for lots of wmen they dont work for me. Its not the end of the world tho as you can do lots on your own. Find an exercise you like - dont put up with an exercise because you feel you should - it has to be something you enjoy and stick with. Ive done the comfort/boredom eating thing - Is there a hobby you can take up while you are out of work?
I was over 24st in 2009 - now just under 17st and Im damned well going to make every effort to be as slim as possible for my wedding day. You have 9 months - that is enough time to make a big change to your life hun, you just have to believe it and do it!!!! xxx

I've also been thinking about getting an exercise bike, sitting on that for an hour infront of the telly cant be bad? lol. I know Im just having an off day, trying for a baby, wedding planning.. everything is so stressful but I know the only person who can change my situation is myself! You've done amazing, you should be so proud of yourself. Im around 17 stone now too and I wanna atleast loose a couple of stone. I'm just going to hit it head on. I do slimming world and that helped me hun as i lost 1 stone 5 in 5 months slowly - My manager who is a bigger gal than me started only a month or two before me and she lost 4 1/2 stone in 7 or 8 months so it is possible - just know you can do it slowly but surely and that slimming world allows you to still enjoy your food without cutting out things you like. You learn how to moderate stuff and there are some yummy meals I have been making from scratch xxx

I'm getting married just after you. I also have a lot of weight to lose. I've started riding to work again which is 15 mile round trip and when my new x trainer finally arrives I'll be hopefully on that quite a bit. Like you I'll be doing that whilst watching the telly. One thing I'd suggest is Paul McKenna, get the book which has a cd in it for less than a tenner. Listen to the cd at least 3 times a week. If you can find his tv series that went with it, give that a watch it's really good.

Hey - don't give up on the diet. I have just started a diet - instead of chocolate and sweets I eat fruit. Cherry tomatoes, apples, cherries, banana's...anything to keep that sweet craving at bay. Having a bowl of soup fills you up for twice as long as a meal. For example a meal of chicken, rice and veg with a glass of water will keep you full for 2 hours, blend it up all and put the water in with it to make soup you're full up for 4 hours!!!!!! Shop online, that way you can buy what you need and not be tempted to buy something just because it's "staring" at you. Exercise, even if it's just a little. Exercise keeps you burning calories for 24 hours at a time. I've just started back on my Wii fit again and doing 40 minutes a day, including things like Yoga and the balance games. Also, DON'T starve yourself to have just 1 meal a day, it'll just make your body go into starvation mode and you'll store more fat. Eat only when you're hungry and only until you feel satisfied. Remember, it takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain it's full, so eat slowly. :)

Me and my man are both trying to lose weight, he's put on a bit but I have put on nearly 3 stone since meeting him. I used to be very fit, always on my bike or running or on the Wii. He has admitted that he's a bit lazy and he's made me a bit lazy too. I need to eat smaller portions and exercise more, not rocket science really.

Do you want some good news?

I can't exercise that well due to poor mobility but I managed to lose a stone in a month just by eating what I wanted.....as long as it didn't come to over 1400 cals per day. I used myfitnesspal (google it) which you can either do on line or there is an iphone app you can use while your out and about. I'm sure you could use the main site with normal phones too though. Its great because it makes you aware of what calories are in what so you are not telling yourself you can't have something. If I want chocolate then I have it.... I just make sure that the rest of the day I have been good so I don't go over my limit.

Admitidly I did have a lull over Christams of which I couldn't for the life of me get back into eating sensibly again. I've just started up again and alraedy lost 2lbs. What did it for me was I was moaning to some of the other ladies about how bad I had eaten over Christams and the weight I had put back on. I remembered why I was doing it in the first place. Not to be more confiendent but to help me get more mobile and make it easier because I want to be able to enjoy my wedding day with as little pain as possible.

Focus on the fact you want this baby. Chances are you might not need any help by the time the weight starts shifting. Put photos of a baby on the fridge and cupboards to remind you why you should be keeping out of them and going to the fruit bowl instead.

Also some things I use for treats that aren't too bad on the cals:
    Chocolate options
    Milkyway bar mini
    Jaffa cakes
Frozen yoghurts in the pots (take ages to eat and like icecream)
    cereal bars
    ice pops
    sugar free jelly

these are all things that make you feel like you are not missing out but are not as bad as some of the other choices you could make.

Oh also I think I've posted this before but can't find the thread.....

The way you look at weight loss is like a map of England. You want to get from Nottingham to London. Now you could make no wrong turns and go straight down the M1 and get where you want to be in no time or you could go the scenic route and around the houses. As long as you are moving towards your goal it doesn't matter if its going to take you that little bit longer because you will get there in your own time when you are good and ready. If you go down the wrong road what do you do? You can either keep going that way and loose sight of where you want to be or you can accept you made a mistake turn around and head off back in the right direction. Remember the hare and the tortoise. This is not a race. Just take it one step at a time day by day and you will soon be in London ;O)

hunni think positive! you are you and your man loves you the way you are if ur doing it to make ourself feel good then it shouldnt be a slog do what you feel like doing if u are having a bad day then take a day off as long as u havent (like me) bought your dress a size smaller for inspiration then u should be fine do somethin motivating and fun like me and my man are takin dance classes to practise for our first dance as we are both a lil bit bad at proper romantic dancing if u know what i mean :P Zumba is good aswell an hour of energetic dancing about which feels so satisfying once you get home :) or try dance dvds at home like i do to build up my self-esteem before i start to go to the gym

as for your diet ive been on and off diets all my life im a size 20 but need to get a 24 in my dress due to my bust but good underwear makes me feel like im a size 12 ^.^ change the little things your hardly notice like switch to green top milk instead of blue and diet juice instead of full fat and things like chocolate put a picture of ur wedding dress on the cup bored to remind yourself of how gorgeous your going to look on ur wedding day

never forget if you are happy you will look gorgeous no matter how much you weight coz happiness makes you gorgeous :) good luck xxxx<3xxxx

The thing is we all know they love us the way we are and it doesn't matter if we don't lose for the big day but when we have health issues like mobility, not having babies etc then we really do need to get our finger out as these are life changing things. I just think its great that our men stand by us and love us for who we are so it shows just how amazing we are. You don't need to be thin to be happy or loved.

I read the bit about you trying to conceive but needing to loose some weight so to qualify for possible IVF treatment. I am trying for a baby at the moment, or should I say we have been trying for about 2 years now but unfortunately due to my age I cannot qualify for IVF treatment. I have decided though to try and loose some weight and so has hubby as I found out a 5% loss of weight increases your chance of conceiving by 15%. Also due to my health condition which affects my mobility and causes me lots of pain I am unable to do much exercise so will be relying on the calorie counting that Jo has suggested.

Good luck with your weight loss 5thNovBride and to everyone else on the journey too. xx

I'm doing weight watchers and love it - I can still eat chocolate and crisps and pizza and chips - in fact I had pizza and curly fries for my tea last night and I didn't go over in my points! I've also done a chart for the year for my weight loss and I worked out that if I lose 2lb a month for January and February and then 1lb a week for the rest of the year, i'll have lost 4.4st!! See baby steps is all it takes :-) I know you want to lose it in 9 months, but if you changed your goals then you can still lose a lot of weight in that time. And when you feel fed up, instead of blowing the whole week or even day off your diet/lifestyle change (which is what i'm thinking of it as) then don't, have a bit of chocolate to satisfy the cravings and then get back on the wagon. We can all do it and the fact that there are so many lovely woman here to help support you is amazing as well :-) xx

give yourself small but achievable goals. i have 4 months and would love to loose 2 stone but i know i might not but i am aiming to loose 2lb a week, you can only 2lb of fat a week anything else you loose is fluid etc. Get active 30 mins a day; it can be anything 3x10 min squats, a walk round the block! I love aqua areobics it is fab!! wish i could do it more

write down everything you eat! and look over it after a week and find your snacking periods and where you could cut down?
plan your meals and only buy what you need that week; you'll save money too. Watch your portion sizes add more veg and eat that first so you fill up on that first and drink more water.

Join in on the big weight loss at the top of discussion page and keep track of your weight etc and also measure yourself sometimes its inches you loose not the pounds

hey hon; sounds lik eyour on SlimFast? IT DOESNT WORK!!!! i did for three months GAINED 8lb [follwed it religiously too, AND did loads of exercise] AND was violently sick from one of the shakes. [brand new pack of powder, brand new just-bough-it milk . . . no reason that i can think of] please honey, DONT DO THIS DIET
if you want to loose weight, cut out the cr4p food, eat celery and carrots instead of chocloate and crisps, walk more, and drink LOTS of water [makes you feel full]
please, honey, dont do slimfast, its rubbish <3 x
