Hey all, how much do you anticipate your guests spending on your gift? I am going to my neighbours wedding in August, if she doesn't have a gift list, how much do you put in the card??

I would say it should be about £50 nowadays from a couple or anyone who is a good friend or family member.

I know thats what I would give if invited for the day. if only invited for the night, then i am not too sure! probably about £40

just depends what guests feel comfortable..we got a couple of £20 but from those tat had travlled far...we had a group of hubby's pals from glasgow group together and gave us £100.his gran gave us £200 as did his auntie..al in all we ended up with over £1000 in cash!! plus another £550 in vouchers!! very generous family and friends!!!

if ur having a gift list, jut make sure its got some low cost things so people dont feel the need or pressure to splash out £100 for a plate lol

I gave my best friend £50 but thats coz she is my best friend. Otherwise I would only give £20. If I got a tenner from each of my guest I would be happy.

we went to 5 weddings last year and all asked for money so we gave the family wedding £60, two close friends £50 and two evening weddings we gave £30- an expensive year for us that was!

I think its only fair if you are going during the day. Especially as the couple are paying for food and drink for you, i think it would be mean to pay less than £50!

hang on, £50 quid is alot of money to pay I think when some people are struugling to pay the bills and stuff. Not everyone could afford to pay that. I dont think its mean at all, its just everyone is different and not everyone can fork out that sort of money.

We're having a gift list and I've been really careful to make sure that we have stuff on it for just a couple of quid - individual plates are something like £2.99. We've also got more expesive stuff on there like a coffee table for about £50 and bedding sets that are about the same, but most things are about £20. There's also the option to buy gift vouchers so if the lower costed things go before people get a chance to nab those, then they can do that.
We've also set up the honeymoon fund with the co that are providing our flights to Vegas and accommodation out there, so they can donate towards that too.
I've put a note on the invitations saying 'your presence is the most important thing, but if you want to get a present...'.

If I opened a card and it had a tenner in, I would be just as greatful as a card that had 100 in. They dont have to give you gifts, and shouldnt feel like they have to. Yes you are inviting them all day to your wedding, but surely your not inviting them just to get at least £50 of each person? No your inviting them there becuase you want them to share your special day.

i agree it is a lot of money, and i know some of my family wont be giving us anywhere near that, but for ME personally i think it would be mean to pay less than £50, knowing what the bride and groom would be paying to have me at their wedding.

cause if somebody only pays £20, my goodness they are getting a cracking day out, lovely meal and probably some free drink at a bargain price!

I think thats really wrong to say its mean. I have gone to weddings before and have been so skint but just about managed to put £20 in a card, so Im mean am I. You dont invite people to get gifts. You shouldnt expect anything.

I'd be happy with a card with a tenner in it. I went to a went to a wedding a few years ago and the gift list was unreal, the only cheap thing on there was a face cloth.....I ended up paying through the nose for a single knife and for the price it was I asked the shop assistant where the rest of the set was when she brought 1 knife out

when i explained my statement I did say "for ME personally" sbride..............

i can afford to pay £50, and for ME personally i would feel mean for not even covering the costs of having me there for the bride and groom. Ok if I had 5 weddings in the space of a few months i would have to rethink that, but i dont, so I dont!

you are mixing up two of my comments there, my "mean" comment was separate from that one, but you read what you want to read. i have not implied anyone is tight, that is what you have thought.

i dont EXPECT anyone to give us a massive cash gift, but if one of my rich mates stuck a tenner in an envelope, then yeah I would be a bit peaved. I am just being honest.

Depends on how well I know the person.

Family- only other member to have got married recently my parents gave a gift on behalf on them, brother and I several years ago when they had to postpone the wedding in place of a wedding gift (if that makes sense)- but probably £50

    Close friends- probably £50

    Other friends- £20- £30.

Also depends on how far we have had to travel, accomodation costs etc.

we gave £25 to my best mate for her wedding, because more often than not i see her and confide in her more than family,i'd only give anything higher to my brother or sister if they got married, other family members would probably only get £20, and thats cos i dont see them that often... yeah they're paying for our meal and stuff but this is how i feel x

i dont mind how much we get, im really sad and enjoy the messages in the cards lol, i dont expect any of my guests to pay loads of money to me, as i am inviting them to my wedding as a guest not so they can pay thier own way, i would feel really guilty if i got a hudge amount from someone i new couldnt afford it. x
