My friend got married in Gretna at the blacksmiths I think it was. She loved it and it went perfectly to plan. She booked most things through the agent and she said they did a really good job of everything.

There are some other brides on here that are getting married up there so hopefully they will see your post and be able to help you out some more. What bits are you nervous about?

Thanks, just hoping that the venue is as lovely as it looks in the pics. we had a date set and booked last october but we had some problems and had 2 rearrange so its been up in the air, only got this booked 4days ago lol xx
Awwww at least you have a date set now so you can get excite about things. Its the people that make a wedding not the location but from what I have seen of the photos you can't go wrong with that either. Most of the other things like the dresses etc you will be taking with you and my friends flowers were just what she asked for when she arrived although you could always take up silk or foam flowers if you wanted to use them.

Have you ever been to Gretna? Its beautiful :)
I've been trying to get a hold of the gretna wedding bureau for the best part of 3 days now! Who did you book with? I wanted either Comlongon Castle or The Anvil hall.
I've found another venue now though in Glasgow thats perfect so going to view that on Saturday xxx

Were also getting married at the mill forge and booked via the wedding bureau. Ive not seen it myself but know people who have and say it is lovely and DF went a few weeks ago as he was doing a job nearby and he took some photos to show me. From the photos ive seen online it looks very pretty and you can have some great pics taken under the gretna sign, the kissing gate and next to the wheel.

It really is stunning place :)
There is a museum there at the mill, fun if you have little ones going :) has loads of interactions (been a couple of years since I've been).
I think I will just stick to the venue I'm viewing :) after pricing it and counting in travel and reception back in Glasgow it just wasn't worth it. They charge a fortune because its such a tourist place xx

We're getting married in August at Gretna - but at the Gretna Hall Linton Suite. There's only about 20 of us - then we're having our reception at the Solway Lodge hotel. At the moment we've sorted the reception (3 course meal at £24 per head) - but for the evening we're going into the hotel bar (not sure whether to organise a disco with there only being 20 of us).
We visited Gretna last January and even though it was the middle of winter it was lovely. The people are so friendly as well. We booked through the wedding bureau and called into the Gretna Hall. At the time there wasn't any weddings on, so we mentioned that we'd booked for August 2011. They checked their book and because we were down the man took us to the Linton Suite and even talked us through what will happen on the day etc. It settled our nerves a bit as well lol.
We're going back up at the beginning of May - to take our M10 forms - but for a look around as well (they'll probably be a few weddings going on that day as well) - I can't wait. I've read nothing but good reviews about Gretna weddings - and the Mill Forge - so you'll be fine Gemma.

When we go up in May we've decided to stay over on the Friday night then have a wander and get our M10 forms in on the Saturday. We priced a few hotels/b&b's and decided the best thing would be to stay in Carlisle (Premier Inn) - as that's only about 8 miles from Gretna as well. The local hotels have really good rates as well though - it's just that a lot of them are fully booked as I suppose in May it's the wedding season.

Love this post! I was wanting the Mill Forge and had been looking at it for months. H2B kind of talked me out of it as we're about 3+ hours drive away (Mr Practicality) but I'm going to put it forward as a consideration again. I sort of had my heart set on it but was worried about my guests travelling. Thanks ladies for having such positive things to say about it. :)
CommentAuthorGemmagem1987
I thought the same, were about 3 hours as well, the more and more we went over things the more I thought 2 myself that if I did it there then I would know that the people that really want to be there would come, im only inviting 30 people im doing 3 course meal and drinks package so they wont have a great deal to pay for, like mym72 said there's a premier in a few miles away and its hardly expensive, I also decided to get married at 4pm so it means people with limited money would only have one nights stay. I would definitely reconsider especially if its what you really want xxx

Some of our guests are just coming up for the one night as well, as we're getting married at 2.45pm. We've booked our meal for 5pm then the night in the hotel bar. We're going up the day before and our bm, best man and parents (and one of my aunties) are staying the two nights with us.
CommentAuthorGemmagem1987
