Has anyone hired caterers for their big day? Is it really expensive?

I've been looking into this myself today and found a chef who has started his own business - if we were to go with him it would be £8.50pp for the three course meal including service and £6.00pp for the evening buffet. Thought that seemed extremely reasonable considering the amount the hotels charge!
Now, finally, Mrs Riley
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words

My H2B is doing the catering himself, he's a chef therefore wouldn't trust something so important with anyone else Xx

Im paying my SIL2Bs mum to do mine! its going to be a really informal buffet and she has asked for £200 for food for £100. She works in Asda so she gets discount on all the food too! x
Very very happy as Mrs Erica Trow
I feel like the luckiest girl in the world! xx
We're still trying to find ours. To use the venue's catering costs more than the venue itself! My parents have put themselves in charge of finding a caterer so that I have more time to focus on getting a house. I just hope they don't drag their heels and we lose our booking- we only have the venue and registrar provisionally booked at the moment and I will probably have a meltdown if we lose either.
