Originally we weren't going to have any evening entertainment except an iPod and sound system because neither of us like the idea of an annoying wedding DJ voicing over our favourite tracks but then we realised there would be no one to announce the first dance or tell anyone what was happening so we've since had a re think. We're now thinking of a ceilidh/disco mix but few of our family or friends have ever done this before so we're not sure about this either. Any thoughts? Comments? xxx

i know what you mean bout the dj because my sister had 1 for her h2b's 30th and he was doing all sorts. dressing up, telling jokes etc and you just wouldnt want that at your wedding. i would ask him to just be a dj and not an entertainer but if you cant find 1 then how bout asking the best man to do the announcements? x

Do you think people will be bored if we don't have a live band or dj?

Honestly and truthly I couldnt imagine going to a wedding and there not being a band or DJ in the evening. But thats just me and h2b coz music is really important to us. A good DJ wont talk over the music, he would talk between songs. And also a good DJ would do thing the way you want it.

A celidh would be great, but it would be wierd to do your first dance to dosey doh your neighbour. I love celidh's used to go to one every year. I would still want the DJ. But contrary to popular belief I would want one with a Gold Lamey Jacket and a block of cheddar he he. We'v not thought of what entertainment we're having, but I kind of want a decent band and a dj.

    I'm now a married woman
    I have a gorgeous husband
    Whats to do now
Theres no more wedding planning to do

I agree with sbride, generally the dj or band leader are the ones that get the party into full swing, just pick a recommended one and tell him what you want xxx

I can't remember our DJ talking over songs or making jokes- just choosing the appropriate songs and making the imprtant announcements. A good DJ will do what YOU want.

get a band!! our band do Ceilidh stuff and modern and old covers. And they will even learn your first dance song for you if you want. Or they will play a CD for you.
As bands come with all the speakers and lights you can easy ask them to finish a bit earlier and stick on some disco CD's! I am gonna ask my band if we can do that, sure they wont mind finishing an hour early but still getting paid for the full 4 hours!

We have a live wedding singer who is doing 2 x 45 min sets and in between time we can have our tunes played. We are going to ask each guest to nominate a song and have it played. (within reason) The swing will please us and our older guests but I think some of the younger ones will like it too as they will know most of the songs and then we will have the more 'up to date' songs for everyone else.

We've got a DJ (old friend of mine) and I know his style - he is VERY good...no unnecessary chat. And we're not doing a first dance, so no worries there lol

Thanks for all your replies. We've gone with a disco/ceilidh combo. They come with good reviews and will play requests at the disco and I'm sure after a few drinks all our guests will be up for a dance.
