Sorry if this is posted somewhere else, I searched but couldn't find it!
I'm having 2 "bridesmaids" - a maid of honour and a man of honour. They are my 2 best friends and I don't want to exclude one just because he's a man! He's going to wear the same suit as the ushers but different cravat (same colour as MOH's dress). I thought this wasn't that out of the ordinary but it's causing controversy especially among family. My man of honour is also gay so of course the "is he going to be wearing a dress" jokes are coming out and there are a few raised eyebrows. My MOH is forgetful and leaves everything to the last minute so my man of honour is reigning her in and making sure everything goes smoothly.

Is it really that shocking? I really don't feel it's a big deal! Is anyone else doing this? xxxx

My husband is to be Chief Bridesmaid when his (female) best mate gets married. So it doesn't seem wierd to me!

Its the 21st Century and men and women are friends. Whats wrong with that?

Exactly! It's mainly H2B family that are making comments.... middle class w.a.s.p. family. *sigh* It's not as if he's wearing ass-less chaps and singing YMCA down the aisle, though that would make it a day to remember! xx

Tell them to mind their own. Do it the way you want it. Cant be doing with snooty people who think they are better than others and things should be done a certain way.... FTW!

Not weird at all! You should have what you want, ignore the family and prove them wrong when your day is wonderful!

I'm considering having a male bridesmaid although not sure what he'll wear. Obv not a dress, but the other men are wearing kilts. He is more of a suit bloke but might stick out a bit.

Definately nothing wrong with male BMs though. Maybe you should tell the inlaws that he IS going to be in leather chaps and dancing to YMCA. Then they might be relieved that he's going to be in a suit!

I'm having a 'man of honour' (or dishonour, considering who it is!) I like that phrase as 'bridesman' or 'bridesmaid who is a man' doen't quite do it!
He's gay, too, so I'm sure we'll all get a few comments about it but so what? Let them get on with it, & we'll get on with enjoying our wonderful day. You go for it, too! As hjl2001uk was very right in saying, 'it's your day'.
