We are getting married at a registry office, its very pretty, very old and gothic looking with a wonderful room for the ceremony, leaded glass windows and beams, beautiful! We arent religious so it would have been a bit hypocritical to get married in a church.

Well there is no real need to get married in a church if you are not religious anyway really is there? I know my parents got married in a church for free because they were active members of the congregation....but other than that i think personally other venues are best.
We looked at our local registry office, but it was too small (though others are bigger it is worth enquiring) We are now getting married at the town hall in the next town, though we are having to pay £430 for the registrars to come to us so that is worth considering.
What do you want? Because i like the idea of a pretty church but purely for appearance, and the town hall is an old building that looks like it once could have been a church, really pretty.
It might be worth you looking online for licensed wedding venues in your area and seeing what is available to you and what is within your budget.

We are getting married at Bath registry office, the room we are using holds 100 and its an old court room so its really nice. It also has an aisle for me to walk down. Neither of us are religious and dont feel it would be right to get married in church. Its cheaper than another venue too, only about £180 for the ceremony.

Well, where i live (huddersfield) the registry office and the building you get married in is as ugly as god knows what!! So no way we were gonna go there. But again, if you are on a tight budget u might have 2 get married there as it is much cheaper, then having the registrars come 2 your chosen venue (here in kirklees it is 284 quid). But other counties will vary i guess. Also if your registry office is pretty just go 4 that, much much cheaper!

Both me and my fiance arent religious so we never wanted a church wedding but it depends on you again. I dont see anything wrong with "just" a civil ceremony whether in your registry office or in your chosen venue.

I was a bit of a snob when it came to registry office weddings but after going to one to see my friend get married I'm totally converted. Her wedding was amazing and so beautiful it didn't matter where we were. The room was really pretty and the service was just the same as anywhere else. The garden out the back was lush. I guess it all depends on how good your local one is but if its not so nice then you could always nip over to another one near by that has better rooms and outside space.

we got married at our local registry office, and it was beautiful,,clean, bright wonderful seating,i had my big entrance walked down the aisle with my dad and little boy, couldnt of asked for better.we picked a registry office because neither myself or my husband believe that god plays any part in our marriage,we didnt want a religious ceremony, but we wanted it to be relaxed and informal and about us,we picked our own vows and reading and it really was a wonderful service.feel free to look at my pictures theres plenty of pictures on there.our reqisty office cost us £164

Im getting married in a registry office in Manchester City Centre. Its a really nice room and small price too. I like the idea of getting married in Church but due to a small budget and the factmy H2B is not a fan of attending marriage lessons and such, we opted for the registry office route. We are going to get a blessing by our parish priest on our one year anniversary so its kind of special. xxx

I thought about getting married in my local registry office but h2b didnt like the idea plus the building work going on all around it changed my mind pretty quick plus it opens up onto a main road which isn't private.

The plus side to a registry wedding is that the venue is usually considerably cheaper and the inside of the buildings are normally very nice. My middle sister got married in a registry office with me being the flower girl and it was nice. They went to a local park for photos and then to a restaurant for a meal with the celebrants and that was it.

To me it was a nice wedding but very dull, I want a bit more celebration to it and I want my family and friends around. So we hunted high and low for the perfect place and tbh we're both happier to do it this way even if it does cost more. :)

I'm getting married at Brighton registry office, it is not our local one. Brighton seems to have slightly different rules to everyone else though as we have already booked the service even though it is more than a year away. We just had to book the appointment for our licence beforehand.
The room looks nice (pics on page)
One of my friends is a registrar so a bit nearer the time I'm going to see if she can conduct our service.

I would've got married in our registry office but it's too small, it only holds 48 and anyone else has to watch on a webcam! It's such a shame as the venue we are getting married in is only 50 metres away, yet were having to pay £403 instead of the £143 it would've cost in the registry office. I think if you are not a regular church goer it seems a bit daft to get married in church. x

we have to pay £310 for the registrar to come to the venue, that is at 2010 prices, but i have been told that it will go up in 2011 by approx 10%, but i think each county is different, look on their website or give them a call i found that my registrars office were very helpful x

We're getting married at the "registry" office. What i mean by this is that the Council put the rent up on the real registry office so they had to close, this meant that the registry office was then moved to inside the council offices. Very nice outside (NOT!!!!!) the room aint too bad though. for 20 mins, i can handle that. Cant believe the price difference though. We were told it would be £43.50 for morning wedding and £110 for afternoon wedding. So we've gone for that last morning slot, 12.30pm.

Ours is £40, we have gone to mold (flintshire) as its nicer than ours, also we was going to a hotel near there for the meal, but thats all changed now.

The council website of the reg office you want usually have the price's on for the registar to come out, all the councils have different prices... never seen them have different prices for times of the day, but defo for different days, shocked by that wren!

I need your help ladies !!!
We first planned to get married in church, having quite a big wedding. But the situation has changed and we can only afford to get married in a registry office for now. The problem is that I haven't got a clue how is it supposed to be ... Do I wear a wedding dress or not ? How many people do I invite ?!? Do we HAVE TO have a venue booked for the celebration after the ceremony or we can just invite the closest friends and family for a meal ? :)) We are on a very small budget but we really want to get married when we planned it.
Any advice and suggestions would be much appreciated . xx

Hiya Xtina, i got married ina registry office, as it was my second time it was what we pref and money is very tight, i wore a big dress (its on my profile) and we was allowed 30 people into the room, i only had 23 tho as we kept it small & intimate, we then all popped across the road to a italian resturant for something to eat...i did book them in advance. We didnt want a reception so after meal we all went home, it was fab.
I didnt have invites, my dad drove me, my mum made the cake, i didnt bother with favours. All we really forked out for was photos but even then i got a registry office midweek deal, flowers, outfits and rings & hair & makeup.

Our wedding was cheap and cheerful and didnt cost alot at all,so good luck hun it can be done on a small budget. xx
