orlistat are tabs you take to stop you absorbing a third of the fat you consume. i don't think they're a hunger supressant Becca.

TiggS: i hope i can loose 5 stone!!! that's be ace! i'm on slim fast aswell to help with the fat intake and omg i have had the side effects already and they are NOT pleasant! lol and i do a lot of walking aswell. swimming is a bit of a no go at the moment as i don't fit my costume and can't really afford to buy a new one cos all my money at the moment is going on the wedding!! LOL

dee: i got put on it cos my BMI is over 40 which is really bad it means i'm like clinically obese or something. i want and need to loose weight esp if we want to have kids in a year or so.

i took it because of my diabetes,my insulin intake is huge because i have a resistance to it its a vicious circle, just make sure you follow the low fat diet,

Look at the diet info- sometimes the 'healthy' options like weightwatchers are worse nutritionally than the normal stuff.

i found it easier to have a low fat yoghurt for breakfast, lunch id do a wholemeal bread sandwich and tea id fill a huge bowl with salad, and have either fish or lean meat,a little potator for my carbs ,took a bit of getting used to but it worked,i went from a size 34 dowon to a 24 and now i feel comfy

Dove: i have been looking at EVERYTHING since being on orlistat and i'm doing Neil's head in. as far as i can figure it i'm allowed up to 30g of fat (correct me if i'm wrong!! PLEASE i probably need less i think but i have no idea how much! ) and trying to keep it as low as possible and will only get the stuff that is as low as i can get it! we eat a lot of the veggie grills and stuff like that and they're really fatty and so is things like breadcrumbed fish so its a bit of a pain, but needs doing.

Good luck. :D. Diets can be a pain, but it will be worth it (We have to read the full ingredients list of everything due to my dads food allergy!!)

From what it says on the internet its widely used long term in the USA and there doesnt seem to be any problems. I did read of the side effects which arent too pleasant. My bmi was over 40 too so I know how you feel. I think its good that you are trying to lose weight for trying for children in a year or so. I was over 19 stone at the start of both my pregnancies and although I had 2 perfectly healthy pregnancies, with zero complications, the last few months of both were hugely uncomfortable and I felt like a beached whale. Though I think thats a common feeling regardless of what you weigh. xxx

dove: oh gosh! that must be hard work.

i know diets are hard work and i really DO need to loose the weight cos I'm just not happy with the way that i look. altho i know that just loosing the weight means that i'll be happy. I'm being referred to CBT cos of my bipolar and i think one of the things i need to work on is my self esteem and confidence which i have very little of. x

i agree with dove about the nutritional content on those weight watchers meals, and they are expensive, its cheaper to buy bags of frozen veg or salad,,also im not ssure you should be doing slimfast at the same time as orlistat, the idea is they absorb some of the fat in the food you eat,if your not eating proper food then taking the orlistat wont work hun

Dee: its used in patients for upto 4 years. i'm not sure if you can use it longer than that. but the doc needs to see me in 3 months to see if i've lost enough weight. if i havn't lost enough weight then i don't get to carry on with it. I'm just over 19 stone myself but am on medication which puts weight on me so i worry that i wont loose as much as the doctor wants (that was the reason why i left slimming world. i never lost any more than a pound a week and got really depressed when i saw others loosing 3 or 4 pounds without really trying) x

TiggS: the doc asked if i was still at slimming world and i said no but i'm on the slim fast plan and she said that's good. there's not a lot of fat in those. she would have said to me if she didn't think i should be on them. she's like that bless her. a bit blunt lol x

Wishing you all the luck in the world hun. I was way over 24st (dont know how much exactly as scales only went up to 24) Im now 17st 9lbs. I cant take tabs or slimfast due to breastfeeding but I asked my GP to refer me to the gym. They do gym and swimming on prescription for 12 wks at a time. My first time at gym was unnerving and I didnt look anyone in the eye, now I dont give a toss and there are some lovely ladies there all at varying stages of weightloss. In reality nobody really looks at me at the gym they are too busy with their own seesion to care what anyone looks like. xxx

tiggs: i could probably do with taking a multi vitamin tab which i'm going to get this week when i get some pennies but at the mo i'm taking a hair skin and nail suppliment as when i was a slimming world my nails went all brittle and flaked all the time but now they don't! yay!!!

Dee: i tried to get my doctor to refer me for that and we don't do it up here. which is a damn shame cos if i could get it on prescription i'd go as i am on benefits and signed off sick. gosh you've done SOOOO well! i can't beleive how well you've done and i hope you can keep going!!!! xx

good luck Rebecca, i tried Alli for a month and it did nothing. i was eating low fat meals and was eating way less that the 17g fat per meal that alli said was the limit. I think that as I was eating low fat, it was TOO low fat so alli did nothing for me!! However I didnt want to start eating higher fat meals just so that Alli would work?? i dunno maybe there is a sience behind it i didnt quite get or something.
But I got PCOS and dieting has always been a b*tch. Only thing that works for me is cutting out carbs........
