My H2B works as a software developer (makes websites do cool things) for a small company and usually if we go away for a weekend in this country he takes his laptop in case he is needed to fix anything.

Now he is claiming he is taking it to the Dom Rep on our honeymoon although he claims not for work - in case we are bored in the evening or want to email home?! I was like really?! We both have iPhones so surely that would suffice?!
I am sure when we went to Cuba he didn't take a laptop and yes when we came in from the pool or on the first few jet lagged tired days there was nothing to watch on tv but surely on honeymoon he isn't gonna need a laptop!
He is adamant it's coming- should I be mad?!

Depends.... If you can get a promise from him that he won't work then take it but if not, I'd put your foot down! We will be taking a laptop I would imagine but only to look up things to visit, check on emails, fb and upload pics maybe but definitely not to work. xx

Men do love their gadgets. I wouldn't have thought you would have much use for it. But maybe you would like to have a chilled night one night watching a film. X

Personally I would put my foot down only because it is something that could be tied with work and if something happened that 5 min could turn into hours which on honeymoon shouldn't happen . Can you maybe check if there is anything like TV or movie choice in room ? if there is options surely that should be enough including I Phones.

If he insists further maybe do a little joke game as in if you use that for work for each min you will give a massage for same amount of time or whatever . I say this as it could seem less harsh and also shows that you expect you and him time technology or not .

My h2b practically has his laptop welded to his legs! to be frank it gets on my nerves at times, but he won't be taking it on honeymoon i expect he will be on the internet on his phone though, whatever happened to reading a good book!

    Thank you :)

I can understand it for films etc but we are goin to a place with good entertainment and he has me for entertainment too haha. I just worry that he will end up attached to it like he can be now.
I did say if he lets me upgrade to premium seats on the plane then he can take it!

Well, if its a company laptop & it gets broken, I think his boss would be annoyed! Or if its a personal one, has he got insurance that covers him taking it away? It could really affect the mood of the honeymoon if it got damaged or stolen.
    Just thinking practically xx

I think you should maybe make a compromise and say he has a 30minute time limit per day! lol

I definitely think you need to compromise, as Princess2be suggested, but I would definitely be annoyed if my fiancé had asked to take his with us on our honeymoon. x

We took the tablet so we could look things up in wifi at the hotels. It was really useful tbh, especially with the jetlag at 3am LOL!

As long as he doesn't use it to do work stuff, I don't see it being a problem.

I've taken the iPad and it's been a godsend for researching where to go and what to do, bus and train times and just finding our way round the place to be honest - although you could probably do that on an iPhone I guess.

The reality of a honeymoon is that you aren't going to have each others 100 percent full attention all of the time, sometimes it's nice to just chill out and watch a film, particularly if one or the other of you is taking ages to get ready etc.

If he wants to take it, I'd let him....if only so that you didn't get 'well, im bored, but if I had my laptop I could do xyz' all week.

    Xx

I caved and just told him he can take it - as long as he promises not to do any work and it is just in case we want to watch a film.
I said again about it being stolen and he said as long as he backs up all his work before we go it will be fine.
I don't expect to be all lovey dovey and have his attention 100% of the time (I don't expect he will come to dance lessons with me etc) it was just the way he said it.
We live 200 miles away from family and where we are getting married and I will have to travel up north a week before him, when we are up there our parents still live an hour apart so essentially before the day we won't see each other for at least a week properly.
So really when we jet off it's meant to be us and our time and he can be a mummy's boy and I can just see him wanting to contact home ALL the time and that will annoy me as much as working!!

I took the tablet on honeymoon with us which was really handy, however, knowing that hubby always gets calls when we're away on holiday due to the nature of his job I simply made him turn his phone off for the entire honeymoon because I didn't want us to be disturbed by the latest issue with one of his cases. He totally understood and his phone stayed off for the whole honeymoon.

Could you just explain how you feel about how his work on honeymoon would make you feel and get an agreement that he will not do any work at all?

As long as he doesn't work whilst you are there I don't see the problem. Plenty of people take a tablet, kindle, phone etc if just to have something to do by the pool, whilst someone is taking a nap, to look at local places to eat and perhaps to put pictures on.
