to pay for their own hotel rooms? am thinking of going to birmingham, and booking a premier inn, and for 8 people its £440, i'm looking at about 20 people coming so would only need 10 rooms, do you think they would be willing to do it if i give them enough notice?

You might be able to get 4 in a room if its a family style room with a big bed and a fold out double bed sofa thingy! Just a thought... and yes, they should be paying!

have you looked at travelodge in birmingham? - dependent on dates you may be able to get their mega cheao rooms on sale. there is a new one in the jewellry quarter too.
as well you could always ask a couple of friends to book rooms on their credit cards, as money is always tight when wedding is on the horizon, that way they arrange who pays who the money and you have better cash flow.

real friends will understand your dilemma

I don't think it's cheeky one bit, if people are expecting you to pay then i'd be re-thinking about inviting them. I have told people where I'm going and what's involved along with the price. Up to now i've had no problems with anyone. The air beds idea is fab :)
