I'm Struggling with the table plan for our top table,

My mum passed away a few years ago, so it's been difficult to figure out how to sit the top table.
We don't want a sweetheart we'd rather keep it as traditional as possible. So I was thinking of leaving mums seat empty and tying a balloon to the chair (we do this in restaraunt at big family events).

But would this look odd having no one sitting next my groom?
It's heartbreaking enough having a giant mum shaped hole in my wedding.

    Thoughts please x

I think it's a lovely idea with the balloon. I wouldnt bother about if it looked odd or not, people who know you will know what it's about. If its on your mind TOO much, you could keep the empty seat on the top table but maybe on the end instead? It' doesn't matter wear the seat would be, being on top table is still the tradition. Ultimately it's down to you, but I don't see either being an issue. Also, don't think as the end seat a demotion of any kind, all important people are on the top able, so it doesnt matter which way round they are. I love the idea xx

What a lovely idea :o) I don't think it would look odd at all. You could tie a balloon to it and maybe wrap some flowers around the back aswell x

what about having a flower arrangement in front of the seat that you could then take to her grave?

we all remember people in different ways for me it was my grandmother who was remembered in a way that only the family knew ... the music i walked and out to was last played at her funeral and was written by my great grandfather "destiny waltz"

    That's really nice Lala,
Personal and private way of remembering him.

The flower arrangement is a really good idea too, thank you. I can give them to my nan and grandad to take home as mum was cremated so no grave.

    its a beautiful idea...
I saw something similar on an alternative website... and they placed a picture of their passed on the chair...

i think its a nice gesture and you will feel their presence whatever you decide to place there..

It's not odd at all! I would do something like that, to remember the most important person in my life (this is not the case). Everyone would understand. Try to ask your h2b if he would be comfortable with it... The idea of having the balloon on the end of the table is really good.

H2b has said I can do whatever feels right, he loved my mum, and has said she needs to be part of our day however I see fit.

I'm definitely going with leaving the end seat for her, with the usual helium balloon and the flower arrangement in place of her plate x

Thank you all so much ladies
