my cousin asked my brother as they were close when they were younger but not so much in his older life, now they are thick as theives! at the end of the day if he doesn't want a best man he doesn't have to have one but its nice to have one to sign the register

Maybe he will ask someone closer to the time, he's got 17 months yet. He might simply not want to ask anyone yet thinking perhaps its too early to ask? Or maybe he's afraid if asking someone and them saying no. If you have got a son maybe you could have your son be bestman even if he's quite young he may be mature enough to stand with his daddy.

My H2B isnt currently having one. Our situation is strange though, we're legally getting married in the registry office in the morning, either both our mums or dads will sign that (seeing as they are the only four people invited) then we're having the wedding blessed in church in the pm (we're classing that as our wedding) where whom ever didn't sign it in the morning gets to sign the church blessing certificate. Complicated but hopefully it will work.

I think it's a long way off and so he''s got plenty of time to make a decission. Perhaps as other people start to ask him about it he'll get a push in the right direction. I'd just be supportive and let him come to a decission on his own if he clams up his clearly not ready to talk about it yet so I wouldn't push him. xxx

Don't push him hun, it is his wedding day too so if he really doesn't want a best man then he doesn't have to have one. My friends got married august just gone and they had thier 2 year old little boy with him at the front of the aisle and called him their junior best man. He was wearing a matching suit and it was so cute! My cousin also had her 6 year old little boy do a speech at her wedding (unfortunately I couldn't go so dont know what it was like) but the brides mum helped him to write it. Maybe that's an option with your son? xx

Yeah i agree. Men always leave things to the last minute. If he doesnt feel a friend is up to the job how about your dad? Are they close? Xxx

The brides dad can't be the best man, that's just too different. The bestman should be someone from the grooms side, a friend of his or your son or failing that, no one.
He could always have his own dad as best man because the grooms dad doesn't have much to do.

I went to a wedding once where the groom had his own two brothers and his wife's brother as groomsmen because he didnt want to choose just one and let the other 2 feel left out. That's another reason as to why your h2b might not want to choose someone. Men are weird, my oh asked his workmates just a few days after proposing to me and I never even said anything to him. I suppose they are all different and have their own way of doing things. It's weird because us girls generally know before he pops the question as to who we want as bms but sometimes the grooms don't want anything or don't know what they want.

By the way a four year old should be able to at least stand beside his daddy and hold the rings.

My OH has picked 4 groomsmen, but no best man. He has a lot of friends and although they're all different he doesn't favour one over the others. We're doing the speeches ourselves, and each of the men have a different role in the wedding. I don't hink he has to have a best man if he's picking one for the sake of it.
