Hello everyone, i have booked our wedding for December 2013, very excited my colour theme is deep red and ivory. Is there any other brides planning a winter wedding? it would be nice to hear everyones plans :)
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Hiya
Wow, CONGRATULATIONS!
I wanted a winter wedding (got engaged in January this year and wanted December 2012 wedding with the colour theme of deep red and champagne/gold) but was vetoed by my entire family and h2b.............so we're having May 2013 instead.
My ideas for the winter wedding were the romantic roaring log fire with hog roast and candlelight. So we're doing all my ideas minus the log fire in May instead.
Make sure you plan for possibility of snow (it'll be so beautiful if it does). My friend got married 2 weeks before Christmas and used storm vases with big candles and pine cones etc. in them for table centres.
Hope the planning goes well and you enjoy every moment! x

May 2013 just over a year.... how exciting. Have you started making many plans?
I like the idea of big candles pine cones etc :) i like candle lights and hoping our church will let us have a candle lit cermony :)
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Ahhhh, candles in Church will be so beautiful with those rich reds flowers or bows at the ends of the pews (ok this is my dream - lol), I'm thinking of red or gold bows at the ends of the pews in Church for three reasons, firstly it'll be a little cheaper than flower arrangements, secondly it looks romantic and soft, thirdly, they don't get ruined if people knock into them.
I'm sure the Church will allow a candelit ceremony, hope they say yes. I would have liked this if I had the winter wedding, it'll be a little out of place in our May wedding.
Yes, we've started planning, the Church and reception venue is all booked, I've known since I was a child where I wanted to get married as I always imagined the same Church my parents married in and also where me and my sis were baptised.
I've tried on a few dresses too, it's all so overwhelming I have to admit but enjoyable too.
What are you other ideas? Do you have an idea on the dress? ;o)

i have tried on loads of dresses, its so much fun but theres one i love its a Essence dress very traditional with lace i love it having a second fitting in two weeks and i think its the one :) getting excited thinking about it :) with a velvet deep red cloak.
we are having a french vintage car which will take us to the church which will have bagpipes playing (have a huge scottish family) hopefully followed by a candle lit cermony. Im having two bridesmades in red and a flowergirl in ivory and a pageboy.
at the venue we are having a harpist playing during the wedding breakfast which will decorated in a winter/vintage/classic theme, havnt really decided yet :).
Wow, sounds amazing and very exciting that you have probably found "the one" - the dress that is (h2b is a given lol).
I've tried on 6 dresses (apparently - I can't remember one of them but sister and best mate say it's 6). I have one possible dress out of those that I really like and would be happy to wear on the day by Madeline Isaac James in ivory, princess silhouette. I've got appointments booked at 3 other bridal stores to try on dresses I've seen that I think look nice in pics I've seen before I have to make my mind up so I should hopefully have a dress picked by July.
I think we'd like a classic car to take us to the Church then on to the reception venue after. We'll have an organist at the Church.
My two bridesmaids (sister and best mate) will be in deep red/burgundy/merlot long dresses and my flower girl (h2b's niece) will be in ivory (hopefully she will be past the nose picking stage by then).
I've no idea about music during the wedding breakfast yet but will defo just have a DJ in the evening.
We'll have a nice canapes and drinks reception when we all arrive at the reception venue before the wedding breakfast.
Being Chinese, some of the decorations will be Chinese double happiness signs (hence the colour scheme of red and gold/champagne). H2b is half Scottish but very happy with the Chinese theme and he has made it clear he will not be in a kilt.
I think I want those lovely red velvety large roses in my bouquet and the bridesmaids will have hopefully cream coloured carnations as their bouquet with gold something running through them.
I'm wondering whether I'm being a bit slow on organising things.
I need to sort out the marriage prep course still.
I love the harpist idea, will have to see if there is money in the budget for one or something similar (maybe I can just pop a CD on).

i would advice you to try as many dresses on as possible even if you dont like as, as you might be supised. the dress i love i wasnt keen on at first but when i tryied i had the weirdest feeling and cried ha.
Again for the classic car, we didnt think we could afford one at first as they seemed expensive at the wedding fairs. however we was lucky to find a gentleman who had a classic car which did wedding for pleasure to up keep his car, only charging us £150 for the afternoon and the car is lovely....bargin!
Again for the harpist, i used to play the flute when i was at school, bumped into my old music teacher and she knew someone who plays and as a favour playing for us at a very cheap rate.
So far we have been VERY lucky.
Our colours and ideas seen very similar......and seem lovely. i need to sort out the marriage prep course, unsure what to expect.

Lol, you sound like you could be my twin. I also played the flute at school and the piano, I had considered contacting and asking our old music teacher to be the organist but I decided it was easier to just book through the priest in Church. If I had more money I'd have a choir at the Church. Music is important to me.
I agree the wedding cars at Wedding fairs are expensive, I've found some others online that are local to us so have sent links to h2b and asked him to explore further. My dad would love a classic car (as would I and h2b), we also need a 2nd car for my mum and bridesmaids.
I think there is something warm, romantic and comforting in our colour scheme.
The marriage prep course sounds interesting but a little heavy.
You do sound like you have it all under control. I will ensure I try on plenty of dresses, I've tried 4 different silhouettes and so far the Princess is the best. Fishtail looked amazing on and was so beautiful and glamourous but I felt like I should be on the red carpet at a film premier rather than walking down the aisle, column dress was ugly and shapeless on me, the enormous ballgown was gorgeous too and proper disney princess but I felt silly and thought I would be too self conscious wearing that all day so the Princess was a compromise, not being too big but still with the Princess feel and more practical (think bathroom breaks).

Cool! Popular and good choice ;o)
How's the planning going?
Any useful hints/tips in our chosen colour scheme? Where are you getting the BM dresses? Not much in the high street in deep red at the moment (I wonder if it's the wrong season - I still have plenty of time).

Really good thanks, everything has been more or less sorted (major things anyway) how about you?
The only thing I can mention is be careful to not over do it the red, I'm balancing with with ivory as much as I can. I've already purchased my bridesmaids dresses, they are from debenhams but I picked them off bay for a bargain.
These are the dresses, having these with ivory fur shrugs and the girls will have an ivory rose bouquet with winter berries, might help inspire you :)

Good advice, I'm trying to ensure there is a good balance of red and light gold so it's not too heavy, especially as mine is a May wedding.
Nice dress. Maybe when we start looking in August/September there will be more choice in red in the shops, alternatively we just get them from a bridal store (more expensive though). I've seen one in BHS which my BM's like the look of from the picture but we want to get my dress first to ensure theirs compliment mine.
How are the groom and his entourage going to be dressed colours wise?
I've not really done much apart from book the Church and reception venue and look at mags and online for ideas and tried on a few dresses.

There are some lovely dresses in BHS and I've never thought of what the bridesmaids will look like next to me! Should be fine... I hope! hehe.
Here are the suits we are having, my H2B will have a red button hole which will look like its out of my bouquet and the rest with have ivory. We had a direct service from a suit hire shop, so they came out to our house with loads of suits and colours so were able to match them up to the dresses pretty well. The red is a bit shiner in real life.
(mind the funny looking on-line manikin!)

Fab.
I was thinking along the same lines, h2b with the red cravat and button hole same as flower in my bouquet and thinking of the rest of the men in a light gold with button hole same as flower in the BM's bouquets so it's all matching.
My sis had a lace/chiffon type layer over satin for her wedding dress and our BM dresses were the same but just plain but they complimented the style of her dress really well so we thought that we should do the same with my wedding and get my dress first and find BM dresses that compliment that style - maybe I'm over thinking all this and should just make a decision and do something lol.

That does sound nice, I'm not very good with coordination. I'm panicking about getting the colour to balance, my main worry is the tables and going over board!
---Winter 2013 Bride ---
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Lol. I think we're keeping the tables simple, we don't really want huge displays where people can see eachother across the table.
H2B dragged me to a wedding fair (yes he wanted to go and I wasn't that bothered) and he spotted the shallow bowls with floating candles and flower heads floating in it too and liked it. I thought too it is simple yet effective and pretty and won't block anyones views across the table so we'll probably go with that.
My sister had very small and low flower arrangements as the centers (a larger display on the top table) with gold sprinkles and red petals sprinkled all over the table.

I think I have seen those bowls! I agree with what you are saying, huge centre pieces look silly personally. We were going to have goldfish bowls with a rose and crystals in, however our florist has offered to do some flower centre pieces for £15 each which will fit in with our theme. So I'm still trying to make my mind up, no idea what to go for...
---Winter 2013 Bride ---
CommentAuthorInDreamland
£15 for a table center sounds like amazing value. I haven't yet sat down and discussed ideas or prices yet with a supplier so am yet to get an idea for what this will cost us but I was estimating £20-£25 per piece if we kept it simple.
Did your florist show you any pix that would help make the decision?

Haha that's nice & quirky Jenny! I like it, even though I'm not a football fan myself.
She didn't have any of the centre pieces but she did have them on display in another colour. When we saw her portfolio, we literately just went "that one!" it was exactly what I wanted and very reasonable on price. I think I'm leaning towards having the flower centre pieces, I just feel it won't add a modern/different touch which the goldfish bowls will, but on the plus side I wouldn't have to sort them out.
That does sound a good price, we got quoted £35 for our top table arrangement x

Wow - you're getting a good price on the table centers from the florist, I'll have to see what ours can do when I finally meet with her.
I think it's really sweet that he's so interested and wants to contribute ideas, my h2b has his moments where he inputs his ideas etc. which is really nice, it'd be awful if they just weren't interested at all. I was worried that he'd think I was just taking over everything and I keep asking him what he thinks of my ideas and he does say what he thinks and wants, like the open bar and has an opinion on the table centers and he loved the idea of the Cancer Research donation for the wedding favours (he lost his mum to cancer).
Fingers crossed with the letter. xx

Lol - yeah, quite a few times when he's tired and stressed he's just not in the mood for wedding talk then other times he's enthusiastic, he does have a busy demanding job so I understand (but then don't we all lol).
We decided that the cards that come from Cancer Research to say that a donation has been made on behalf of the guest can be put inside a Chinese angpow (the red packets - wedding ones - that traditionally money goes in as a gift to the bride and groom from elders and from the bride and groom to children). My dad bought some gold and red ones when he was last in Malaysia and we'll use those as the favours, thinking of putting those gold foil chocolate coins in them too so it looks like there is money in them.
I hope you do get the letter, would be so cool! Something to put in the wedding album! xx
