I was just wondering something - you know how you're not allowed to bring your own wine into hotels and if you do they charge you corkage? Well what if you give mini bottles of wine as favours are your guests allowed to open them and drink them in the venue? Just curious cos that's another free drink for everyone!

I need to ask, I guess you cant help it if people open them and drink them at the venue, will check though.

I am still gonna say to my guests to drink them on the quiet, just in case!

I would check with the venue but that is a very good way of them getting an extra drink lol. I worked out it would be cheaper to pay for their drinks than it would be to pay corkage charges on a cheap bottle of plonk. They know how to screw us over don't they?

Yeah they definitely do! I'm about to email my venue just now to check this out x

mine wanted to charge £10 corkage per bottle so basically ther would be no point bringing them in, thankfully they are letting me bring in bottles of lemonade (that look like wine bottles) for the kiddies without corkage. But that little bottle idea sounds great save you some considering they want to charge me either £15 per big bottle or 3.5 a glass.

My sister's venue wanted her to pay corkage on mini bottles of vodka she had as favours. I think they argued with the venue though and agreed they wouldn't have to pay in the end.

Its stupid that they charge you corking fee's its part of their job, its not like they are going out their way to do it

HB I think its more that they make a lot of money from selling their own alcohol. They would rather we bought their bottles of wine at £16 a bottle than bring in our own and they get a big fat £0!
my venue is charging £10 per bottle of wine or £15 for sparkling or champagne. So i am just aswell buying their alcohol.

linzi that is a lot.... my venue is charging me £1 per bottle

if mine were charging £1 i would be bringing all of my own in!! I know they are only doing it so that we dont bother and just buy theirs. Even if i got wine at £4 a bottle it only saves me about 2 per bottle so not worth the hassle really. My drinks package is £23.15 per person. Thats champagne on arrival, half bottle of chilean wine with dinner and champagne for the toasts. I cant work out how to have the same but do it cheaper with the corkage.
