I've pretty much organised absolutely everything about the wedding now, apart from decorations and flowers.
I'm not very good with flowers, and I don't really know what I want. I *love* paper flowers, because I love writing and reading and it just seems like the perfect thing for me to have. My mum and I went out and bought a glue gun and some gems and sparky wedding bits and pieces, but whilst my technique is certainly improving, they never come out quite right.
So, I've had a look around. And I have actually found a bouquet that is made from maps and books (which fits with our travel theme, and my love of reading and writing) but I also came across these big single paper roses, like, massive. And I actually kind of love them because they come in all sorts of colours, including like an "ombre" and the person also does custom orders. (There are pics in my albums of both types)
My question is, would either of these look silly? I know people have all sorts now like buttons and brooches and gem bouquets etc. But I'm not very good at this sort of thing!

I think it's a great idea.... If it fits with your theme too then why not xx

I saw the map ones and loved them. If you love it then have it as your wedding is about you and your h2b and no one elses opinion matters as much. X

I looked at the possibility of paper flowers as I love reading and our theme was trains. Me and my Sister spoke to a company that do paper flowers at a wedding fair and they looked really good. We went for real flowers in the end, but I managed to get my love of greyhounds in the bouquet. Our flower lady put some little greyhound charms in it hanging from pieces of wire.
Practice makes perfect, but if you can get someone to do them for you, even better! I think it will work really well with your theme.

I think that idea sounds lovely :D I personally went for a fabric/brooch bouquet but for a while when we first got engaged I thought about getting a paper one.

Oh good :) I probably shouldn't worry but we have got some... errmmm... "opinionated" guests. I guess I'll just hit them with it if they've got a problem. Lol. I've now found a lady on 3t5y who uses the older vintage sort of maps so there's a lot more red and goldy sort of tones, going to see if she'll do a custom one with a mixture :) xx

I love the map idea. especially if it fits with your theme!

If it's what you want and what you like then go for it! It doesn't matter if other people don't like it, it's not their wedding day! They sound perfect for your theme :) xx

i prefer the bouquet, rather than the larger flower tbh, mine was made from strategy guides from my favourite gaming series :) I made my own, practice makes perfect!

there is actually a wire trim thingy round it now, the official pics wont upload, files are too big (kitchen has been overhauled since, ignore the state of the background lmao)
opinionated guests can do what they want at their own weddings
Me and hub did what we wanted, i know don't talk to his mum or my sil, all because we did our wedding our way lol

I'm quite excited now!
I love those, Velcro. :) You're far craftier than I! I've made about 8 flowers now, tried sticking various gems etc. on as well and they're just not coming out right. they are improving, mind you, but not to the sort of state where I want them in my bouquet.
The lady I found on 3t5y has given me a pretty reasonable quote, and basically said she can even get maps of specific places if I want like where we met, and where he proposed etc. She can also get the sheet music of our first dance song, or a book that's special to us, or poem or ceremony reading, so all in all it'll be around £200 for my bouquet, 3 bridesmaids and 7 buttonholes with the sourcing of specific texts included. :)
I'll pay that to stop faffing around with a cold glue gun :P Lol.
If you decide to go for it Stephanie and you're not a DIYer (or like me, try to be and fail lol), let me know. I'm ordering some various sample flowers from this lady so I can let you know if she's any good. They're a little cheaper than the quotes I've been getting for real flowers as well. xx

mine looked like a dogs dinner when i first started, just keep at it, you will master it in no time :)
dont blame you for getting someone else on it though, by far the most time consuming thing i ever did with our wedding, it didnt take days, it took months D: it was like 5 minutes per flower and well...... millions of flowers later, never wanna see another one again hahaha

For the opinionated guests, if they say anything, hand them a flower and tell them its a map to show them the way home so they can take their negative opinions away from you. X

Yes, the sample bouquet is in my photos in my albums :) I can't post it as not a power user but she did a sample of all the flowers she offers. I'm going to go with a mix of just the roses, not the spirals, with maps, books and coloured paper. xx
