Does anyone know what the obsession for MOB MOG thing is with hats and why they think they have to have them? I know loads of mothers fusing over hats and spending an absolute fortune on them. I can't see why? Please explain.

lol there is and old tradition where the mother of the bride and mother of the groom compete for the biggest most flamboyant hat usually this is won my mob :D xxx

My MIl dosen't have to compete because I don't have a mother going but I think the MIL will have a hat. I was just talking to a friend and her mum and MIL are really bad for it and on about spending £150 on them! I can think of better things to spend that much money on so can't work out why they think they have to spend that much money and why they think they need one when they have to take them off when they are inside 90% of the time anyway.

Both mums didnt wish to wear hats at our wedding and instead opted for a fascinator each which suited them both. At other immediate family weddings my mum has worn a hat but felt that she no longer suited them and thought with it being a summer wedding it would be too hot to wear. I think it may have been custom to wear a hat in olden days but I have hardly ever seen a hat being worn at weddings in the last few years, not the ones I have been attending anyway.
Edited to say its usually cheaper to hire hats these days than to buy them if you arent going to wear it again. My mum has many sitting in boxes and only worn once. xx

I've seen guests wearing them to so I don't think it is just the mothers!

I think it is just left over from the days a lady wouldn't dare enter a church with her head uncovered- hat, headscarf etc.

a fancy fascinator is much more attractive than hats these days - especially when more weddings take place indoors from start to finish now - theres no need for a hat.
i'm banning hats, but fascinators are allowed. not fair to be blocking peoples views of the bride coming downt he aisle with a massive eclipse-inducer!!

My mum is not bothered in the slightest - she is getting a small fascinator to pretty her hair - she said why pay to have hat hair in my daughter's photos lol!
Rob's mum wants a hat - I mean honestly - it's a blimming hat. I only bought a hat once for a wedding and the time i actually wore it was to ladies day at the races cuz everyone has a hat or a fascinator and you look daft without one lol! :P x
