I am sorry but another moan coming up.l

I do not understand why people are gettign a free meal and now giving me orders what they will and won't want.
For example my mum and sister do not want any salad with their Prawn Cocktail and no veg for them, plus my mum wants yorkshire puddings with her lamb or she won't enjoy it.
My 9 yr old neice only wants sauages or it seems she will refuse to eat and "kick off".

Am I wrong to feel this is wrong to just be so fussy. If you do not like sometihng leave it!!

I am Lacto free and have been since birth and I have never kicked up a fuss , just eaten what I can and left what I can't.

My mum will moan about everything as I have never been out for a meal with her and she has not moaned!

Just say that you have sorted it, and unless it's a dietry requirement, don't bother saying anything and they will have to eat whats put in front of them.

Oh i totally understand what you mean... we have to have both meat and fish for dietary requirements for some of the guests...those who dont have issues like a mate of mine is asking me what the options are as needs to decide what she 'likes' etc before sending abck rsvps!
At the end of the day if she asks me again ill just say i dont know 100% its all sorted and your get what your given. if you dont like something, leave it! x

I totally get you on this one. I mean for a lot of people there, you wouldn't normally pay for a meal for them, and here they are getting a free meal and being picky over it. At the end of the day, you only have some control over the meal and people will just have to like it or lump it. If they get some salad they have to not eat it's not like they are going to leave the wedding because of it!! Obviously when you select menu options, you do your best to make people happy, but there is only so much you can do. Some people will never be happy, yorkshire pudding or no yorkshire pudding!

tell them to bring their own dinner in a box if they cant accept what you are PAYING FOR, for them... if there is something on the plate they dont like apparently they can leave it ... a novel concept i agree

i had a guest who 6 weeks prior to my wedding had a gastric band fitted , i asked if there was any changes to he meal needed ... got told in no uncertain terms that she would eat what she wanted and leave what she didn't ...and that i was not to do anything to accommodate her !!!

I am having beef and know there are 3 people in my party who don't eat beef so they are having chicken, have 1 vegetarian and 1 diabetic so no pudding for him, everyone else can eat whats put in front of them, I was always taught that you get what your given, if they don't like it then thats tough. If they don't want to eat the salad or veg then they can leave it, the more instructions for individual people that you give to your reception then the higher the likelyhood is that something will go wrong.

    We are the same.

We have given a guests a choice between 2 starters, 3 mains and 2 desserts. There are several people who don't want starter, my 13 yr old cousin who is a bridesmaid is wanting a childs meal of nuggets and chips. Only children we are having is 7yr old and 8 yr old flowergirl and page boy and MOH 20 month old son, flowergirl and pageboy want smaller adults meals, 1 is having cheese and biccys for dessert. 20 month is having nuggets and chips same as cousin as my cousin won't eat pasta.

I didn't want her to have children meal as she isn't a child but can't be bothered to make a fuss.

When I go to weddings, I am honoured to be invited, most people don't get a choice and am happy to eat what I want and leave rest. I don't eat salad I just leave it.

It is sooooo frustrating, just tell them that you have made changes and they get what they are given, thats what I am doing.

All of the weddings I've been to didn't give me a choice, you just leave what you don't like the ungrateful gits.

My day guests are getting fish and chips with all the trimmings. If they don't like it tuff cos there isn't another choice until 9pm when the evening buffet is served.

Tuff if they don't like it!

Sod em is what i will be saying, unless it is a dietary requirement i will be having meat or vegeterian and if they dont like it they can get something themselves seeing as im paying about 60quid a head for them. I am going to try and pick something that most people will like but also something I want as it is my day at the end of it as it is yours!

I have been to lots of weddings and ifi didnt like it i didnt eat it, doesnt matter they can get something when the evening food comes out if they are hungry.

we're asking our venue if we can change the dessert to a trio as cant decide between 2 options and then mom suggested some many just want fruit salad... that way we're hopefully catering for everyones tastes and if they dont like 1 option they still got soemthing else. then starter is just soup for EVERYONE... and main is where its got confusing but hopefully gone for all round faves to suit all... at the end of the day you cant please everyone and you're forking out god nos how much for 3 course meals so they can like it or lump it... just wait till their special day... theyll finally see how difficult it can be! x

There will alwasy be the ones that pull their faces, but it's free grub, eat what you want, leave the rest and just fill up on sweets and shit as there is going to be a butt load. we are giving ours a choice of beef or chicken which they will hopefully tell us on the RSVP . As for the veggie choice, my daughter has chosen that as she is veggie. if anyone has any other dietety requirements then so long as we know before hand the hotel will cater for that.
some people just want to complain and no matter what they are given would still complain even if its what they want. Saw somewhere - could have been on here - that a message was put on the RSVP saying if not heard back by the relevant date then they would be given "X" as their choice. surely if they have enough sense then if there is something on the plate they dont like they would be polite enough to eat what they do like and leave what they dont.
as for your neice, unless she has a severe phobia of eating other food would tell her sausages not on the menu. We had a choice of giving my grandchildren ( aged 5 & twins at 3 ) nuggets/sausages/fish fingers with chips but decided to give them half size portion of the main meal as they can eat "junk food" any day of the week plus we are fortunate that they will eat anything.

Stick by what you and h2b want for the meal and if people dont want to eat what they have been given, then its their loss and they will have no one but themselves to blame for being hungry.

    Fiona,
My aunt had told my mum she eats chicken, hence it was on the main, she wouldn't have any of starters or main when given the RSVP. Was prepared to 'fight' it as I think she should have smaller adults choice, it still riles me up now but I am just going to let it wash over me as I am not letting it cause arguments and stress which is unnecessary . I know my aunt would argue the fact at her wedding we wanted chips, I was 8 and brothers younger not 13. Mum even suggested letting them bring a packed lunch which I put my foot down, saying they are not embarrassing me with that.

After I told them the children's menu which she was happy with, mum saw them and aunt changed saying she sometimes eat chicken. I am going to let her embarrass her parents with having a child meal when the other kids are having small adults.
She is a spoilt little girl who defiantly does not act her age.

Jeez - where are peoples manners? They're not paying for it, so unless its a genuine allergy, then I'd say tough luck!! Get what you're given and be grateful, I say! THeres no possible way you can please everyone when it comes to food - I've relented to options to please the masses rather than to enjoy something that I would want tbh, but that is as far as it goes. If they don't like the options provided then they can do the other.
PLus, its much easier for them to not eat something on their plate than to have kitchen staff running around trying to remember which tables the fussy eaters are sat.

You have two options 1) Just nod and smile and ignore them or 2) put them in their place and tell them to get a grip!!

It made me and my other half so mad as it wasnt long till our sit down meal that cost us thousands! She was so busy packing everything away again and didnt get off the coach in time to have the group photo! Silly woman!!

We're giving our guests the following choices for the main course:

    Coq au vin
Hereford Angus sirloin steak (both with wilted spinach and sauteed potatoes)
Pan-fried salmon fillet with spring onion herb crushed potatoes and white wine veloute
Spinach, ricotta, and wild mushroom lasagne

If the one vegetarian coming really doesn't like the veggie option (we'll speak to her before sending the choices out), we'll change it to something she does like. We also have a Coeliac coming, so they will be catered for separately. The starter will be something like a cheese tart with side salad, and our dessert is apple tart tatin with vanilla ice-cream. We figure that that way, if people don't like the tart tatin, they can just have the ice-cream, or vice versa.

We're not offering any more than that; if people don't like those choices, tough.

Just dont let them get to you, if they wont eat what you provide they can have crisps from behind the bar! xxx

We've just asked for guests to give details of dietary choices or allergies with the RSVP. I've said that the main course for the wedding breakfast is beef, if you don't like beef opt for vegetarian. Those are the options, if I hear of no vegetarians then I will not be making any special requirements. My h2b's niece is a real fussy eater and will usually only eat pasta and ketchup, cheese and tomato pizza and chocolate. When we were planning the wedding I had a chat with her and her mum to say that the venue will not cater so if she wanted to eat something different they would have to provide their own. She has been brilliant and really worked hard to like beef and been trying all sorts of new food. We don't mention it around her but it seems she's got over the fussy eating.

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013

My view with wedding breakfasts is - like it or lump it. You will never please all of your guests, and to be honest no one should come to a wedding just for the food.

I'm sure all the brides on here have put a lot of thought into serving a nice meal for their guests, and for guests to start making unreasonable demans is ridiculous. Xx

The last two weddings we've been to have been roast dinners - beef, lamb or pork... I can't stand roast dinners, and restaurants/hotels/venues never cook the veg enough, its always rock solid, the potatoes are usually cooked from frozen as well as the yorkshires.. I didn't complain though, I just ate the meat and filled up on the starter and dessert..

can only echo what others have said hun! it's just rude!! and gives the impressing they care more about the food than the fact its your day! with no consideration of the cost that you've forked out! wedding breakfasts aint cheap! we're having a very intimate wedding so i'm perfectly happy with guests choosing different starters/mains/puddings from a choice of 4 rather than giving everyone the same, but only because with 12 - 15 people it shouldn't be too much hassle for the kitchen but if we were having a big wedding then i would definitely just give people 1 option unless they have special dietary requirements.
