In glad no ones contributed because we have both put in so much effort and have had everything we could possibly want, sorry but I couldn't justify spending 10 k on a honeymoon it would be a big chunk for our mortgage deposit x

We're paying for nearly all of ours; my mum and dad brought the two bridesmaid dresses and my wedding shoes. H2b's mum said if I put the effort in I could sell her wade collection and keep the commission though I don't know how much that will be; she had 900 pieces so even if I only get a pound per one sold - that'll be £900 :)

My parents have offered to pay for some of our wedding but we'll also be contributing towards it ourselves. That's why we're putting the cheque I got from the Revenue & Customs folk towards part of it.

My dad gave us £5k and my mum gave us £3k then the other £5k we paid ourselves so total of £13k. H2B's parents offered to help out but we politely declined as we had savings of £5k for our wedding and didnt need anymore money so they gave us spending money for our honeymoon instead.

Urgh... so depressing the cost of everything haha!
I'm hoping that the OH rents will give us money towards the honeymoon as they mentioned the other week that they were going to give us some money towards the wedding but then haven't heard nothing since! lol! xx

My MIL just reluctantly gave us £2000 for the venue deposit! I am grateful but she was an absolute cow to my OH when he approached the subject even though in June she gave the same amount to his brother and told us we could have it too!!! But thats a whole other story!!!
The rest of the wedding we are saving up for ourselves! My mum and dad have told us they are contributing but like us, they need to save money first. My poor dad is talking about selling the house, re-mortgaging so he can pay for the whole thing! Which I will never let him do.
My cousin is getting married next year and her mum and dad are paying for everything. I think up to know its £25,000!!! xx

We are paying for it all ourselves, none of our parents are in a position to be able to help. However even if they were I would not accept it as I don't see why they should have to foot the bill to support my choices x

I had no choice but to take the money from my parents - they have been saving since i was born for my wedding and they believe it as tradition to pay for their daughters wedding - i am very grateful and i am doing it completely in the 5K budget they have given.
    xx

Wow, I can't believe so many people are getting help from their parents, or for that matter the amount of help they are getting. Its amazing how different things are for different people. We will be paying for the whole wedding ourselves, which is why we're on a budget of £1-2K ;). Neither of our sets of parents have offered to help but then I don't expect it because I know they can't afford to. But its been a real eye opener to see that some people have been gifted more than our entire budget. More than a little envious ;)

My sister confessed the other week her wedding and honeymoon cost £20k and they wish they had stuck to a budget rather than just getting what they wanted.

As my dad contributed to my sisters wedding, he insisted on contributing the same amount to mine, my dad works long hours and he's been putting money away since I got engaged, but my parents are in a position where they can help and no doubt they will contribute the same amount to my other sisters wedding when she gets round to it. My dad's been moaning at me as I haven't asked him for a penny of the money he has set aside for me as we have been paying the deposits ourselves, but I relented last week and let him pay the deposit for mine and my sisters dresses!

I am hoping to bring everything including the honeymoon in at £8k, if I can do it for less than that I will because that means we will have less to save up for a deposit for a house afterwards.

I think it shouldn't matter how much your wedding costs, its what you and your family and friends make of it!

We were planning on paying for ourselves. But when we finally got our arses into gear my parents gave us X amount and then H2B parents gave us Y amount.
The total amount they gave us is way way more than we were planning on spending but they both said that we can do with the money what we wish. So I guess our parents are paying.

me and oh are paying for ours and very proud of it everything is about us and no-one has a say in it lol we had a very tight budget of a max of £2500 an i worked my backside off to make that money over the summer and i did !!! the venue is not the best i could afford its the place ive dreamed off ! i was so lucky as it has just been taken over and the owners before dint do weddings so we got a really good price as it was the new owners first wedding. I have literally made everything else :) collecting bits and bobs here and there and of course the goo old bay of e! i know people spend £1000's and thats great for those who can but im so excited for our wedding as its literally ours . the one exception is our amazing wedding cake which my o/h's family member has made and only charged us £60 for ingredients and my god i LOVE it. We are hoping to go on honeymoon/my 30th in january so more saving after the wedding and as someone else said we have asked for donations from guests. Imo its not the cost of the wedding its the effort and personality you put into it! :)

One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!

our budget is around £12k-£14k which we are paying for ourselves. I wouldn't ask my parents or his to pay for our wedding in anyway as we want to be free to make our own choices without feeling that we are compromising on what we want or encouraging someone to spend mor ethan they can afford.

We have paid for the majority of our own ourselves, its bee n a struggle but were really proud of what we have managed to save, we love to spend and have never saved until now, we have done it for around £8,000 including the honeymoon and we have managed to get what we wanted. My my and dad did very generously give us £1000 when we got engaged which helped but everything else we have paid for, we have made some cut backs and there will be some additional things which in a dream we would have wanted but their not important at the end of the day - i have been to weddings with massive budgets and ones with hardly anything , the end goal is the same and the couples looked equally as happy, im sure your day will be just perfect xx

We had the money chat straight away so I knew how soon I could get married and my mum had always said to me she would pay some towards the wedding. When we had the chat my parents said they pay a third which was more than I was expecting! H2B's parents have given us money here and there but we are basically paying two thirds which is fab x
