Who is paying for your wedding?

I am once again finding it a struggle to pay for wedding but there's no way i'm putting the date back any further! We've already done it twice!

The reason I ask is that a friend of ours got married a couple of weeks ago and she said that her Dad paid £8000 towards the wedding!!!

I was thinking jeez, with that kind of money I could have the wedding of my dreams! Unfortunately my father is in no position to pay anything towards our wedding and we just don't have that kind of spends!

I have been left feeling slightly jealous and feeling like my wedding is going to be rubbish! :( xxxx

We're paying for the majority of the wedding, some of the family have contributed money to the wedding, h2b's mum has contributed quite a bit and h2b's dad's wife has said she'll buy our cake for us. but yeah, most of it, we're saving up for xxx

we're paying for the majority of ours, my mum has brought my dress and veil and my step mum is buying my jimmy choos. H2b's parents aren't contributing as far as I'm aware. I guess I was lucky as I got quite a biggish payout from a redundancy then got a PPI claim paid out which gave us nearly all the money we needed, I think we're about £2k short. That said if we hadn't got those payouts the wedding would have cost a lot less!

Your wedding won't be rubbish, it will be the perfect day for you and h2b cos the end result will be the same - you will be married to him!

I have my dad buying my dress that's £600 plus he's giving us £400 cash so he's contributed £1000, h2b's parents are giving us £3000 plus buying the cake, bridesmaids are paying for their own hair/accessories/shoes and all groomsmen buying own suits ... Think we're having to save about £8-9k ourselves on top of family's generous contributions x

My parents are helping us out with a majority of the wedding but as their only daughter (and my two brothers are not settled yet) they wanted to be sure we have a lovely day so want to contribute as much as possible which is lovely, H2b's parents have had their other children's weddings to worry about so not expecting anything off them as I would just feel really bad although Mil2b has offered to do sweets for the children, all the rest we're doing between ourselves :) x

My parents are very generously paying for most of it. We're paying for the rings, our hotel room, and a couple other bits (I'm going to buy the invites and little things like that), and OH's mum is paying for our cake, and might be helping towards the cost of the honeymoon.

Had we been paying ourselves it would have been a very different day, as we just couldn't have afforded to spend anything close to what it's costing; however, it would still have been special, and perfect for us.

We are paying for the most of our, my mum is paying for my dress and giving some money towards the wedding (not sure how much) im hoping 1000 and then my other half parents will most likely give us the same, they did say before about us bringing the wedding forward to 2014 and that they would help us with money, but words like loan were mentioned but i want it in 2015 as I want us to be able to cover atleast the majority aswell as the fact I want our daughter to be a bit older so she will enjoy it more. any our wedding is costing around £4000 so if we can cover that then any extra can make our day extra speical like being able to get a band instead of just a dj and being able to hire a tardis and money towards our honeymoon

we have paid for it all ourselves and in equal amounts each. Absolutely everything including our honeymoon has come to just under £8k and we both paid £4k each. We have point blank refused money from both sets of parents because we are in a fortunate position to be able to afford our own wedding so I don't want my parents to have to struggling to contribute. MIL2b is a better financial position than us all but again, we have refused it so that everyone has been treated the same.

We are paying for it all ourselves. I made an excel spreadsheet with a strict budget n saving plan hence why we are getting married in 2015. Including honeymoon it is looking like £8k but may still be able to save a little on that. It's hard but we will do it. I know what you mean about comparing - my friend is getting married next June n hers is costing £20k+ I keep holding on to the thought that our day will be ours n will reflect us as a couple x

Do not worry!! You're wedding will NOT be rubbish!! We havent had a penny from either side as neither side are in any position to do so. We have budgeted £5,000 for our wedding and so far we are under budget, and we think it will be just the wedding we want. And that to us, is the important thing. It would be lovely if our parents were able to contribute, I think it would make an easier winter for us (H2B works seasonally and is off from end Oct to mid March - so no income there from him)!

Ours is costing £9000 without the honeymoon (very large family!) and we are paying for 75% of it. My parents surprised us when we went to look at the venue by paying the £1500 deposit. As with all of my sisters they are also paying for my outfit (dress, veil, shoes etc).

I have a spreadsheet and every month we do one thing on our list. I try and knock money off each item to cut down. Its worked so far saving us a few hundred. It all adds up though!

We are paying for ours, I inherited £1k a few months ago to get us started but that's just the deposit. We've budgeted about £10k for ours excluding the honeymoon but I'm trying to get it in under that so that money left over can go on the honeymoon. We are also asking for money as wedding gifts so hopefully that should go towards the honeymoon.

We started off paying for everything, however h2bs parents have given us £1.5k and my dad has given us £1k...It took the pressure of a bit with the saving and meant that we had a little extra to treat ourselves.

My mum isn't in a position to contribute financially but has been an absolute star with researching and sourcing things.

Our budget is 7.5k and we will be coming in at 6.5k...I don't feel like we've compromised in anything we've wanted, but then we are having a smallish day do (43 guests) and a larger night do.

For our total cost including the honeymoon, my parents paid a third, hubby's dad paid a third and between hubby and I we paid a third. We were incredibly lucky to have parents in a position to give us that much for our dream day.

Just remember hun, as so many wise ukbride ladies and gentlemen say, it's not how much you spend but it's how well you spend whatever budget you have. You can have a dream wedding day if you find the right deals and do some diy. As much as it is our special day, remember that your guests will remember the happy couple and the details will be forgotten by all but yourselves. Remember also, in our parents days, most had either a registry office or church service followed by sandwiches at one of the parents of the couple or in the local church or community hall. I'm sure it's only in recent times with the likes of the Beckham's in hello and ok that suddenly there is a rise and demand for all these lavish wedding receptions.

Im sure you and your h2b will be able to organise a fantastic day on the budget you have. Everyone on here will be there to guide you along the way xxxx

We agreed, hubby to be would pay for the wedding, I'day for my dress, accessories, and honeymoon... Wedding budget approx £15,000 minus engagement ring and above.... Honeymoon fund, I'm struggling but really hoping to save £4000. My dress is £1300 and veil, £250, not got other bits sorted yet...

My parents are not in a position to help us out at all, and we didn't expect anything from anyone, however hubby to bes mums and dad are giving us £5000 towards the wedding, which is amazing! It certainly helps. I refuse to get into debt with this wedding, so a year of hard work, and saving is in order.

I am paying for the flowers and all the decorations. H2B and me are paying for the church fees, giving notice fees, photography and entertainment. H2B and my parents are paying for the cars. H2B is paying for the ushers' and dads' formal wear. H2B's mum and step dad paying for the honeymoon. Cake is being made for us... that pretty much covers it all!

Ur wedding will be what you make of it, its all about the atmosphere :) dont worry about money, just budget to what you have! Ive had friends who had various budgets over the last 2 years

    - one 10k half paid by parents
    - one 10k paid all themselves
    - one 25k+ paid mostly by parents
    - one 15k paid by themselves

HONESTLY I couldnt say one wedding was better than the other, money or not didnt make a difference, it was the atmosphere, emotions and guests that made the day :)

We are paying for all of ours and are aiming to do it for 7k!! xx

We are gratefully recieving £3000 from OH parents and £300 from my mum and my O/H recently came into some money and has dedicated £2000 of that to our wedding fund this has been a massive help and has meant we could up our budget from the original £6000 and very excitingly been able to book a honeymoon :) x
