Just about to start looking at doing my own invites and was wondering what the etiquette is for the order of our names on the invites? We're not going traditional with the parents names but do we put my name or h2b's name first??
I didn't think I'd care about this stuff!!

Don't have a clue on the correct way. I just wrote mine then his.
Traditionally its parents names then requests the presence of blah blah at their daughters (name) to (grooms name) wedding
CommentAuthoralmost a year wife!!

"Amy Caroline C********* & Christopher Daniel B******* Request the pleasure of the company of .............. To attend their marriage at St Michael and all All Angels Church On Saturday 3rd May 2014 At 12.30 Followed by a reception at HMS Eaglet, Liverpool'
Hope it helps!

Traditionally you put the woman's name first before you're married then man's name first after marriage x
The greatest thing you'll ever learn
is just to love and be loved in return
I think we did his then mine (How bad is that that I dont know! lol) Our invites were coming from us rather than parents etc. I think traditionally its the brides name first as her parents are inviting you to their wedding of their daughter as its all about who the girl belongs to (thats how I see it anyway) so as a girl you belong to your parents, as a wife you belong to your husband.
I really did marry my Mr Wright and we had a nice day for a
Wright wedding!

You can do it however you like!
The tradition was the brides parents would host the reception so they would be inviting people to the wedding of their daughter and xxx.
As you're not doing that, you can go for whatever you like!
And we lived happily ever after!

If you are doing the invitation from you two then etiquette dictates that is is the male name first

I stand corrected; just looked it up and the bride's name goes first as traditional states that the bride's parents are given their daughter to the groom :)

Done some google research and seems to be a mixed bag but bride first seems to be more prevalent than groom first

With your names bride goes first! When addressing to guests married couples are on the same line, unmarried on 2 separate lines with person you know best first , if you know both well womans name goes first, if both male or females put alphabetically
Familys write couples name then elaborate on inner envelope , include children's names oldest to youngest!

We did h2bs first as all his friends would have commented on how he was under the thumb already lol.
I must admit, I thought that was the traditional way anyway, although it wouldn't have fussed me if it wasn't.
We didn't do the whole invite from the parents thing xx

The brides name normally goes first but everyone is different.
Our invites were different the day invites where with my parents name first and then the evening invites were the parents of Peter and Lorraine invite ....
Cant wait until I become Mrs K

I don't like the idea of putting my name first as most cards and everything we write goes with his name first, I might do my side of the family me & him and his side him & me and same for friends although our friends are mostly both of our friends xx
CommentAuthorKaren22
I think we put his name first in ours. I don't know if that's right but it felt right for us. X

I put Dan's name first on the STDs as his is first alphabetically ... but then one of my Aunts told me it was wrong and my name should have been first. When we did the invitations we wrote a poem and it was "from" my name then his.
There's no "correct" way - whatever feels right to you xx
