I'd say it depends on your budget. You have to look at how many "spaces" you have and then fill them after what you want your day to be like...
I've made a guestlist like this.
First I made a list of everyone I feel I WANT there, these are the people I would miss if they were not there.
Then I made a second list of people I would very much like to have there if we have the room.
At last comes the ones I feel a little obligated to have there, a sort of "maybe list"

    Make sense?

I think Annette is right. I have now whittled it down to really important people at the ceremony (that matters as we're in a registry office, not a church, and we have the choice of up to 12, 30 or 60 people depending on the room), then everyone we can afford in the order Annette said, firstly to the reception and then anyone else up to what we can afford to the evening do.
Saying that, I'm about to scrap it all and just have our parents and children there!!

I can only have 60 at the ceremony (including bridal party) which is turning into a numbers nightmare! I've done a list of have to invite (close family), want to invite (close friends) and should invite (everybody else). The three lists in total come to 83 for the day time so need to lose 23 :S, its so hard!

    Friends since 1999, together since 2007 :D

    I only have 2 lists, 1 day & 1 night.

I think i have about 130 during day & extra 60 at night!!! Only because h2b is from england & we wouldnt ask his friends to travel to scotland just for a night reception.

Good luck with the lists though :-)

    xx

Thats the same as my nicole, I'm from Suffolk so loads of people are travelling up for the wedding which means local people we are really close with are having to be cut to evening only, which I hate having to do but the people who are travelling have to come first, its a nightmare!

We are going as far as the aunt and uncles and there over 18 kids but that's it. We have a couple of friends on my side, because I don't have many family, but that's it really. You could be there forever else. xx

We started off planning for 60 adults but couldnt quite manage that. WE started with immediate family, then closest friends that has ended up totaling us to 84 adults and 15 children so had to up the numbers. So the only people we are having there we really want there. WE do have a list of others that we can add in if there a lot of people that cant make it. They will prob get invited as evening guests otherwise although we havent decided on that yet because will mean more money. With regards to family i only have my brothers and sisters, mum, dad. H2B has most of his, he only has 2 aunts and a few cousins. If i was to envite my whole family i would have to double the guest list on family alone so we decided it just isnt possible to have them all there and they live to far just to come for the evening.

    Going to become Mrs Stockman

Got my cousins kids but they live 170 miles away and I do speak to them, but if I haven't talked to family members for more than a year they're not invited, same on H2B's side! I've got such a lasrge family that we've only got about 6 friends coming at the moment so we're sending out the invites in stages, stage 1 = 4 months before, invites to those furthest away and chase RSVP's to find out who won't make it, stage 2 = 3 months before send to everyone else on day list and fill spaces from stage 1, then stage 3 = after collecting all RSVP's from there invite more friends from this area!
We've got 60 to the day and about 150 for the evening!

Family first for me then my closest friends.
I dont know what my h2b is doing for his half he seems to invite everyone to the full day.
We have a list of the ones we want there but not the full day.
We might have someone there that neither of us like just because he is my MOH other half.

Its hard to decide on a list, we have done 2 ...... day and night, but we already may have to make changes this early on!

I think the lists/who to invite could turn out for us about 85 in the day and 160 in the evening!
