Hey ladies, I know some of you have said your making/have made your own invitations. I'm just wondering where you a) got your design ideas & b) got the craft bits you needed. I have looked on bay of e and have seen lots of kits for sale but none of the designs really grab me! I would like something unique so any pointers or ideas would be great. xxx

I am making my own, and I basically went to a local craft shop and bought bits and pieces and then had an experiment making up different designs. Once I was happy with what I was going to do, I then trawled websites like ebay, craft suppliers etc (of which there are *loads* on the web) and bought the bits I needed.
One word of warning, is check the delivery cost on ebay. Some things appeared to be cheaper there, but once you added the postage, it was actually cheaper just to buy it from a local craft place.

i made mine too...i got loads of free samples of designs i liked from websites and started to design some. i bought some craft stuff from a local shop and began to get creative but it just didnt work so i used a website (a link is on my wall of the one i used) and bought some stuff and made three designs which i showed h2b and others and we decided on a simple design that looks elegant but has the homemade touch too (pics up). i am going to make the order of service, place cards, menus etc in the same style as it is so simple and this way it will all tie in together. xx

Im making mine too. I have decided on the "wallet" type so that i can put rsvp/menu choice/hotel info in the invites. So first decide on what size/shape/type of card you want and colour. Then you can choose any design you want and print it off and then stick it to your cards. You can get glue on a tape so things dont get too sticky. Then either carry on with printing suff or get a stamp and ink pad and go for it. Get your ideas from made stationary and then just play with a few as its not as daunting as you might think. I do make cards but I promise it is quite easy. xx good luck xx

I've made my own - I hand craft greeting cards anyway so seemed to make sense to make all my own wedding stationery, from invites to the table plan!

I went to a wedding fayre and took photos of the sample invitations of the ones I liked and basically copied their designs! The most important thing about making ur invites look classy is to get good quality pristine card. I got ivory pearleasent card from the papermill shop. And the simpler the better. U can get ribbon, diamantes and diamond buckles cheap anywhere now!
CommentAuthorekielty(now Trow)
I made my own invitations for my engagement party earlier this year but i got frustrated with it as I made really fiddly ones with bits of ribbon and crystals on.
There are more people invited to the wedding and I dont think I could do all that again, plus it didnt work out any cheaper to be honest. Im sending Me To You invitations for the wedding! :) xxxx
Very very happy as Mrs Erica Trow

I got some basic wedding invitations from a stationers and them just customised them a bit with some crafty things - I am now a great lover of the rubber ink stamp!! lol. It worked out not too expensive and not too fiddly (as I am not too arty really - agree with ekielty!) but they were still original and exactly how we wanted them. x

i am also in the throws of making mine ........someone somewheree thought it would be a really good idea to handdraw them all .....what a stupid idea .....well 20 drawn 40 to go
I made my own and have handed some out and people are really impressed. Got some ready-cut cards to fold then made a pocket for inside our of another piece of card to hold all the info, then decorated the front with a stamp and embossed it, put some flowers and ribbons on. Takes time but worth it in the end

I am in the process of making ours... We bought silver card, and brown string from a craft shop, cut luggage label shapes out of them and tied them together. My other half got a calligraphy set from my mum for xmas so he is going to do the calligraphy. We are having 4 labels tied together - 1st page; silhouette stamp of us both, 2nd page; you are invited blah blah blah, 3rd page; when and where etc, 4th page; RSVP to tear off and send back. Thought it'd be easy... I've only done one mock up and have found the opposite! Never mind - we'll keep plugging on!

We made ours - I did the layout and C did all the cutting and sticking - he got some great feedback about them too :)
CommentAuthorMrsH2B
FreyFrey that sounds like a nice original idea. I've drawn a couple ideas out but as I'm no good at drawing they look a bit poop, look nicer in my head lol. xxx

I was going to make ours but i wanted the pocketfold type ones for the day and finding the card to make them was a NIGHTMARE! I found a site that does the blank ones but it works out cheaper for them to do them for me so im just going to add roses and crystals to them when they come :-) Ive also just found a site that do them for half the price other places were asking for them (love net searchs hehehe)
Going to make the evening ones myself tho :-)

we're making the STDs, pocket fold invites & RSVP cards, place cards, thank you cards and table plans. Buying the pocket folds pre creased though for ease! All the card/envelopes/stamps will roughly be £180-200. Hoping I can print the text at work :) my designer from my office is doing the text "inspired" by Heather Marten Westbury!
