you get gifts for whoever you like. traditionally the mothers both get flowers. we are getting girfts for everyone who has helped us pay for the wedding and all the bridal party really. we are not giving flowers as gifts we have got everyone something and then they all get to take home flowers from the centre pieces aswel. we are getting my parents a weekend break away as they have paid for most of the weddign for us and sacraficed a holiday for us. but also getting them a small keepsake aswel. im getting my father in law a personalised tankard, as well as the best man, ushers and my grandad. my mother in law i couldnt decide what to get her as shes so fussy so have found a chocolate hamper online that im going to get her. my bridesmaids are getting willow tree figures, paige boys are getting money pots and flower girls are geting bracelets. we are getting my nan and my h2bs nan both a personised crystal vase as they have both really helped out with the wedding aswel. me and h2b are also doign gifts for each other for the morning before the wedding which i will be leaving with the best man to give him- getting him some aftershave, groom socks and boxers and thinking about a personalised pocket watch as a keepsake x

We gave gifts to those who'd helped us with the wedding - so the best man (also father of the groom), my mum (gave me away and made our cake), my grandma, hubby's step mum, bridesmaid, flowergirls, ushers, readers. The ushers, readers and bridesmaid got a card in the thank yous (BM already had all her outfit and accessories as gifts) and the FGs had a round of applause (they got their gifts as accessories too). The parents of the groom had a voucher for a champagne tea at a hotel near where they live, and the step mum had a crystal wind chime too as she likes those, and my mum got a flower arrangement, card and a huge cross stitch she's always wanted - my grandma got a card and flowers too :-)

Right so I'm not far out then, found a decent website for nice engraved pocket watches so might get them for the men but I know my Mum will look at her flowers and think why has my step dad got a watch and her just flowers, so if I get her something else then will have to do the same for Mark's mum and we are getting silly now, should I just think suck it up Mum and be happy with what you have??? when do you give the gifts???

Some people give gifts night before, morning of, or during speeches. Entirely up to you who you give gifts too and what you give! and theyll be grateful for whatever they receive, at the end of the day its not about what, its the sentiment!

We will be giving gifts to my MOH & BM (they will have their outfits, shoes and jewellery on the morning, and possibly something small in the speeches) and the FG will be 3 so will get her a nice bracelet and probably a teddy bear or something, same for the PB as he'll be 6. Then itll be standard, best man & ushers, Parents of Bride and Mother of Groom. All with have cards and extra thank yous in thank you cards.

We'll also be paying for parent albums / canvas / photo frame once the photographs have been developed etc as extra gifts for parents as well as father of groom who unfortunately wont be attending the wedding.

See it's really difficult cause my Mum and Step Dad have helped us pay for the wedding (not that my step knows how much, my mum is quite sneaky lol) but it's my real Dad thats giving me away who hasn't helped financially or practically, plus Mark's parents haven't either, would it be bad if I got my Mum & Step Dad something nicer than everyone else, I know people should just be greatful for what they get but I know my Mum, she likes to be........appreciated is the only word I can find, if I thought for one minute she would be satisfied with a bunch of flowers I'd be sorted lol, a large framed print might be a nice idea though, just give her flowers on the day, she'll be happy if she thinks she's got something else coming, honestly my parents are complicated people and make my life hell at times :-| x

im getting my mum and dad something 'better' than my inlaws because they have helped us the most they have paid a hell of alot of money for the wedding so they deserve soemthing better than my inlaws as they paid a small fraction of what my parents paid. they should just be greatful for what they get, so dont worry to much! we are giving our gifts out during the speeches x

Lynsey why not get her the standard flowers on the day and then more of a token gift in private and just explain that you didn't want to embarrass all the others by making a big show at the wedding. That way everyone is happy xx

Giving standard gifts and then saving more personal gifts for a private moment before or after the wedding is a good option if you don't want to step on anyone's toes.
