I didn't see the point in the high street shops as my preloved dress was cheaper than lots of high st ones. In fact some of them are expensive for what they are.

Glad to hear i'm not the only one tempted byt the pom poms ! If any makes them they must post them up so we can all see! I'm a bit skepitcal that it's as easy as they made it look! Pretty impressive making your own cake. It'd love to do it but wouldn't know where to start! i've only every made fairy cakes! x

The pom poms have been big in the states for awhile, they make great decorations. I even seen smaller ones used to make bouquets and centerpieces.
CommentAuthorSamanthaH99
I tried making Pom poms a while ago and it was as easy as they said! Peeling them all out was a bit fiddly (spelt wrong!) but definitely worth a try- if nothing else m cats absolutely loved them and they got more use than any of the stupid cat toys I've paid for.......

I did the preloved dress, and was going to do the paper pom poms but time ran away from me. They are easy to do, just make sure you buy good quality tissue paper and take your time with them. I used cheap stuff for a practice one and it failed, I also didn't make the tissue square so I had a wonky pom pom!! The bay of e is good for that, they also do the kits but they are really expensive. they look lovely hung from the ceiling though, and you can get the tissue in so many different colours. I do want to try the limoncello for a BBQ we hope to have in a few weeks (assuming the sun stops being mardy and comes out to play again).
If you've got the time, DIY can be a lifesaver!!xx

Where do you get elderflowers from haha! Wouldn't mind giving that one a go myself :)
I think instead of pom poms, i'm going to try and do paper garlands, I also really love the sprayed bottles and i'm sure i can get through enough bottles of wine by the time i get wed ;)
It's really inspired me to get started. OH said thee's no way i'd get it all done in time, told him i've now got another 12 months to do it so gonna go for it :) xx

Is there a time of year for elder flower picking...? I think i need to do my research, that would be fabbo for the the champagne reception
I wasn't too keen on the sprayed bottles, though the using bottles idea in general was a good one, or I suppose, saying that, they don't have to be sprayed you could stick anything on them!
I think the first thing I do will be my cake toppers, as they will be so easy, I just need to get some diamante thingies and the glue - though I don't know what glue Im supposed to use... and Im not sure how I'd even stick them down without sticking them to my fingers... I'll have to look into this haha

Yes there is a time for elderflower.... my mum picked it all and then brewed it in the garage but i remember it taking months and months and you need bottles and stuff to brew it in however it was soooo worth it as beautiful xxx

What busy brides we're all going to be over the next couple of months. Thanks to SelinaK for pointing out that the tissue paper needs to be square - either I wasn't listening at that point or they didn't make it totally clear. I would have just gone ahead with it in the shape it came out of the packet!!
No way i'll be doing anything as complicated as making booze but I can certainly advise that a lovely freshing drink to treat yourself after all this DIY is a glass of Prosecco with a dash of Elderflower cordial! Perfect summer (despite the weather being so bad this year lol)) cocktail!
Keep on posting the DIY successes and warning us off any daft ideas!! xx

I haven't seen the program, but I will defo be watching it now, I didn't know what you were all talking with the pom poms so just looked it up on goo gle and I love them, they look so easy to make, I found a site that gives you step by step instructions with pics :) My dress is an ex-display dress, cost me £60 instead of £900 :) Made all my own invites, name cards & holders, individual menus, thank you scrolls and all my table decorations so saved myself a fortune.

Thanks Velco! Donda you've gotta get going on those pom poms! I made a mini one to try it out and it is soooo much easier than I thought! Now i'm just wondering how you go about arranging them in an "arty" way like a proper wedding decorator would do! I don't want to end up with them just dangling around looking silly! I wonder if there are any guides to dressing your venue out there?
Here's hoping! x

Lizzy check out the some American websites for hints on decorating with pom poms, they have been big in the states for awhile now so there should be lots of great photos and ideas. I really like the DIY sections of W*dding B**.

Pinning up different sizes and at different lengths just dotted about would look grand I imagine :)

Maybe group them, say for example several groups of 5, each pom pom in the group of 5 hanging at different lengths. I'm going shopping Friday, so I'm going to get some paper, ties and string. Mum'll love making these with me, a vodie in hand....LOL
