Take a look at the Brides Checklist at the top of the forum to get you started.

There's also a thread somewhere on budget wedding ideas x

I would see if there are any wedding fayres in your area. They're great for inspiration. Don't be forced into signing up for anything though, shop around for the best deals.

Start with the things that are likely to book up. Church first as you have your reception sorted, then car, photographer, any entertainment you want (like DJ), videographer if you want one. Bridesmaids can wait for a couple of months at least, especially if you buy high street dresses. As for your own dress, browse local bridal shops and see if they have any sample sales on, or see if there are any charity bridal stores in your area. Also look online at sites that people use to sell pre-used things.

Don't panic, take your time. You don't need to rush at this stage. You can spend some time thinking about what colour you would like, and if you haven't already chosen them who you want to have as your bridesmaids. You might actually find once you have a bridesmaid chosen that they will be able to point you in the right direction. Once you've picked a colour you'll find that things start to fall into place.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

There are also checklists available in bridal magazines and online. The best thing to do though is use that checklist as a guide and create your own. I also recommend starting a spreadsheet to keep track of all costs - list all of the checklist items (even those that may be free/a favour from a friend) and then in the next 2 collumns have the estimated cost and the actual cost, with the totals at the bottom. its very easy for the budget to spiral out of control so this will help you keep on track when you inevitably see the cutest ever special touch which will suddenly double in price when the supplier hears that its for a wedding.

I would defiantly start with the church and reception first get that booked ASAP. Then book other things like photographer, flowers and any entertainment u are having. Look for your dress and any brides maids dresses ASAP too, as your dress can take any thing up to 6 months to come in the shop. Also if u are wanting to get it from the internet, you need time to send it back
If u don't like it. Or time to alter it if u need to.
Have fun doing it and try to relax xx

What's your fave colour? If it is colour that will look nice on dresses then go for that. It would be lovely for u to have your bridesmaids in your fave colour :). X

If you don't have a favourite colour then you can always go with a monochrome scheme or even have your BMs in all different colours. Maybe there's something that means a lot to you and your OH that you can base the colour scheme around like a football team or a favourite film or something. Failing that just go shopping and see what colours you are drawn to the most.
