the first thing is did was book my venue and choose the date. once thats done, everything else happens around it. you cant book anything else without first knowing where its going to be, and the style of venue sets the theme of your wedding sometimes.

there are important things to book of course, but really , once the venue and date is picked, then thats a starting point for everything else.

We had an engagement party at our local conservative club. All they asked was that you payed a £20 one off payment for a membership and that there was £300 taken behind the bar at the end of the night, if not you would pay the difference! But this worked out ok because all we needed was for everyone to buy one drink each. We got a friend to dj for £50 and parents made a buffet for us, the most expensive bit were the decorations but we got these off a local market store for half the price of what they were in the shop. The whole night cost around £150 and it was lovely. We made the invites ourselves and only sent them to family, we made an event on facebook to invite everybody else.

    Hope that helps!!! xxxx

I had my engagaement party at a local soccer club, it was £100 deposit and if the bar made £800 then we would of got our deposit back, but for £100 i didnt mind not getting it back :) Didnt have many decs as there was a screen which played a dvd of photos of me & my H2B, was amazing xx

I'd keep your engagement party low key if you can, as you really want all the effort to plan your wedding itself! Buffet meal from cost co or iceland etc, try to email/bookface your invites if you can maybe? Then work out how much you can afford to save each month for your wedding, add up the months and that will help you get an idea of when/what year you can have your wedding - then go ahead with confirming your date and venue and off you go!
