Hey ladies I have just got engaged in January and have now begun planning our wedding. We have set a provisional date for the end of October 2018 and already know where we would like our ceremony (family church) and reception venue . Would just like some advice on where to start really? We can't book our venue until next year when the books are open and our ceremony will be arranged closer the time.

I've been having an awful experience trying to arrange our engagement party with no avail, seems difficult trying to arrange something that fits all the families schedules. Would be great full for any suggestions as I'm feeling stressed already lol :) xxx

Hi Charmaine, welcome to the site and congratulations on your engagement.

I would say the first thing is not to worry too much about all family schedules. You should pick a date that you want and check with the closest people to you that they can make it and then just got for it. If people want to see you and your OH on your big day then they will. With a 2018 wedding, you're giving them plenty of notice so I can't imagine there would be anything major planned that they can't change to be part of your day.

Good luck with your planning x

    Hiya. Welcome and congratulations!
I second what Nicola said. Let the family's work around you, it's your day after all

My wedding was meant to be on the last Saturday of October, but we had to bring it forward a week in order to have the venue we wanted. This means it's on my sister's birthday! We spoke to her about it and she was fine.

As for your engagement party, I would say book it for a date that is suitable/special for you and if your families really want to be there they will. You will learn throughout the planning process that there's a limit to how much you can work around other peoples needs! (don't mean that to sound harsh by the way!)
    Good luck x

Welcome and congratulations. Great advise from the ladies above - remember at the end of the day it's about you and your fiancé, so take considerations and accommodate where you want/can - but the final say should be yours (as a couple).

People will find a way :)

    Best of luck

Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to UKbride. This site is really good for advice and ideas. Also for making friends and sometimes to have a good rant lol.

I would start with working out a budget and try to stick with it. It is very easy to get carried away with planning and before you know it you're spending more than you can afford. Next set a date and get the big things booked like venue, photographer, cars, etc.

Try not to stress, planning a wedding can be very enjoyable. Wishing you all the best with your planning :)

Thanks for all your advice ladies :) all feels a bit daunting at the moment but the excitement is currently outweighing it! We've decided on renting a cottage and hosting a BBQ for our engagement party and have decided upon a date that were happy with for the wedding :) Thank you so much, just needed to feel like someone understands xxxx

Completely get what you mean. I am pretty much in the same position as you... its all too much to know where to start. I have finally booked my venue last week and Photographer. I think those are the two essential things to do first ( so people tell me) Lots of my friends have shared cake makers, dress shops, florists etc... so if you need any recommendations I can pass those on if that helps. Anything you can share on your journey too would be great. best of luck x

Hi we have just started planning as well. We have set our date and picked our venue. We are going to have a look around our venue on Thursday although it makes no difference because this is where we definetly want the wedding. We have sorted a photographer my shoes and been looking at cars, We know what kilts we want as well and also sorted the flowers. xx

    Congratulations and welcome
My top tip create an email address just for wedding things you will get loads of contacts and sign ups and it can be a bit much a separate email means it's all in one place and once wedding is over you can delete email and not worry about it

Congratulations and welcome to the UKBride family. I would spend lots of time researching quotes and shopping around. You could book things like photographer, car, entertainment etc now but it might be safer to wait until you have your venue booked and therefore your date confirmed. We didn't bother with an engagement party, as we were busy in the run-up to Christmas and by January it felt too late. If you can't get close family on both sides together maybe you could have a couple of evenings to get everyone in.
