Hello! New to this forum. Getting married for the second time - no date set and no plans yet. I have three girls 15,11 and 8 who I would like to be involved. We are thinking of getting married in a few different ways. Maybe a registry office here in Maidenhead and then a disco in a local hall. that would enable me and Alex to go away on honeymoon on our own. But, I am thinking it would be expensive and complicated with my family as I am not speaking to my mum but am speaking to my dad. On Alex's side he doesn't have many friends and only a very elderly mum who wouldn't be able to come. He only has a sister so it would be really unbalanced on my part with guests, family etc!!! So we thought about going abroad and getting married there with my girls and just having a lovely family holiday all together the five of us. When we get back, hire the cricket club, have a disco with us providing a buffet and people buying their drinks at the bar. Then we would go away for a weekend just the two of us to a posh hotel. Great. But, where on earth can we go that won't cost the earth for the five of us? We were wondering about a cruise, but would that be anightmare with children. We were thinking about an all inclusive somewhere but would it be like a conveyor belt type thing? Sorry to ramble on, but I am getting buried under a sea of travel brochures. Two of my girls want a registry office and then a party here but the big one wants us to do it abroad so she can come on the holiday.
I just want to get married and have fun doing whatever we decide to do!!! I am trying to please everyone and it's beginning to be a nightmare. I am 41 and Alex is 47 so we're not ancient (I dont think so!!!) and would be open to any suggestions.......be it UK or abroad or cruise. Aargh!!!!!!!!!

    welcome!!

you could go abroad (like me!!) and plan the wedding yourself. you can pay for a holiday as normal and plan your wedding day completely separate!!

Thanks for advice. So kisywisy are you having your girls (ha three like me!) on your honeymoon and involved with the wedding too??? And SaraC1 that sounds great. Where will you have the party in the evening (eg a hall/hotel) Cos we don't have a huge budget and will be doing a lot ourselves, I just worry I will be faffing about on the morning of the wedding loading up plates of food for the party in the evening. Hmmm, maybe I could look into caterers.....its so hard to know what to do!!!!!! I love both of your ideas and I know ultimately I have to decide what's good for me (oops I mean "us" tee hee start as you mean to go on!!!) but I just don't know what to do.
If I won the lottery I would prob have it here and then the girls would be pleased and go off on our own for honeymoon. AARGH

We got married at Gretna Green. We didn't want to travel abroad to get married, but couldn't find anywhere that suited us in Leeds - and once we looked at Gretna, we knew that was the answer. We had a small wedding with around 20 of us altogether - but there's lots of places up there that cater for smaller weddings as well as big ones as well.

We got married last August on a Saturday, so had the full weekend (Fri - Sun) there, and most of the guests did the same. It also gave us opportunity to have a honeymoon afterwards, and and evening reception back home after the honeymoon.

We're not having a honeymoon as such. Just a family holiday with a wedding thrown in lol there's only 14 of us going over but having a blessing and reception when we get home. :)

Think we're going ti go away without the kids in feb for four days to Dubai bit depends on money
