hey ladies me and h2b are looking at planning our honeymoon and getting something booked within the next couple of weeks.........only problem is there are so many places we would love to go but can not afford (doesnt help when you need to go in middle of august) and places we would love to go but dont no if its too simple aaargh
just wondering for all you's who have got honeymoon booked.....where are you going? how long for? and whats the reason you choose the destination? xx
CommentAuthorlala "mod" bunni
St Lucia .... 17 nights ... leaving here on july 31st ...... mr lala choose it because he can get free flights there lol
We just decided lastnight that we will go to Hawaii with a couple of nights stop over in LA, prob go for 2 weeks or 2.5 weeks in total. We both have really wanted to go for ages and we'll get a mixture of culture, activity and relaxing spa and beach there. We probably won't book it until the autumn.
If budget is a prob hun, would you be prepared maybe to delay it for 4-6 weeks until the school hols finish and then prices go down? What kinda places are you interested in?

Borneo, 14 nights there and a day travelling either side. We wanted somewhere that had lovely beaches, lots of wildlife, lots of things to see and do, different culture, great food- and on googling for all those things, Borneo was what we came up with. We've spoken to people who've been and they all say it was amazing. The best place I've been previously that would be great for a honeymoon is Fiji (mainland not great, islands gorgeous- but very far away!). My friends have honeymooned in Maldives, Mauritius, Jordan, America + Hawaii, Italy, Barbados and Kenya- all have had rave reviews!! x

We are spending 18 nights frist on safari in kenya then on the beach in zanzibar, we have previously been to kenya and loved it so much we knew we would go back for our honeymoon. We love animals and wildlife and wanted somewhere we could dive and somewhere with a bit of culture.
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!
Ps clbronze, im jealous - borneo is top on my want to go list - the diving is meant to be amazing and I'd love to see orangutans in the wild :)

Oooh Borneo - I have family there (the Malaysian side, not Kalimantan/Indo side). I've spent many many many holidays there and I love it! H2B and I spent a week travelling round and saw amazing wildlife there 18 months ago when we went for my cousins wedding. You'll love it hun! Where are you staying?
Rachel - asia is very good for a honeymoon and your £'s go a long way there once you get there! I know a really really good travel company that organise hols there if you're interested, let me know and I'll pop it on your wall. You can get 5* luxury for a good price out there and the food in Malaysia/Borneo or somewhere like Bali is really cheap if you go out and sample the local hawker stalls.

got a couple of recommendations for hotels restaurants bars shopping etc so just give me a shout if i can help at all
I didn't enjoy Tunisia that much... but maybe you'll have a better experience. Beaches are great, weather is very hot, quite nearby and cheap. Just be warned that the people see English tourists as great big pound signs and for us that ruined it a bit. x

Malta is really lovely! The capital, Valetta, is gorgeous, St Paul's Bay is beautiful and the other islands (Gonzo and Comino) are lovely too- highly recommended! I know people who stayed in Qawra (think that's how it's spelt!) and didn't like it as it's a bit English sea-side, that's where I stayed and it was nice, but rest of the island is better. x

Thanks lala - will shout out for some suggestions when we start actually looking to book it later this year, we're both very excited even thought we're a long way off booking it, I mean Hawaii! Soooooo cool! ;)
Rachel - I've posted the link on your wall, do check it out and let me know how you get on, they are really good, I use them a lot as I travel to Malaysia a fair amount because of family. I know people who've been to Tunisia and come back disappointed so I'm not sure I'd recommend it.
Claire - we flew to KK and did Mt Kinabalu and the park, saw Orangutans, spent time on the beach at the resort, flew to Sandakan and then took a boat to turtle island to see turtles lay their eggs at night and see newly hatched turtles released into the sea (amazing and totally recommend it), we did a trip down the river and saw wild elephants and crocodiles too. It was so nice to see the real Malaysia, the wildlife, for a change as usually I do a couple of days on the beach and spend the rest of my time with family hanging out where the locals do and just eating. The good is amazing out there! Make sure you try "char koey teow", satay, lor bak, nasi goreng, mee goreng ...............ok, now I miss Malaysia! You'll love it!

I feel like crying now! I wanna go back! I miss the food! Wish I had gone back in the new year for my cousins wedding, I'd have got to see my grandmother one last time, she passed away 10 days after H2B proposed and two weeks after my cousins wedding.
The fresh fruit juices too are just simply divine and do try proper Malaysian coffee, it's totally different to anything you'd have ever tasted. You will need to get this from the local stalls, I've never managed to get it in the resorts.

I have been to Tunisia and can quite safely say it is the WORST place I have ever been and when I left I felt like I needed another holiday just to get over that one! I had food poisoning, was perved on by all the male staff (they love white girls with green and blue eyes!) We got led to a shop by a taxi driver which we were then baracaded in by locals until we spent nearly £100 on 2 fake polo shirts! There are children roaming the street trying to give you things, if you dont take them they put them in your bag or pockets and then demand that you give them money for it, at which point adults suddenly appear demanding the same. All the hotels where we stayed had guards and great big gates around the hotels as we were told that locals like to abduct travel makers and take all their money! We went in July and the heat at midday was unbearable (and I love heat!) but you couldnt stay outside in it. So my advice would be to steer well clear of Tunisia! lol
Me and h2b want to go to Kos, which is a small Greek island in the agean sea. It was the first place we went on holiday together so it seemed fitting to go back there for our honeymoon! Plus it was absolutly gorgeous, and I didnt want to leave! lol xxx

We are heading to tanzania. 3 weeks, first week climbing mt kilimanjaro, second week safari around tanzania and then third week 5* resort in zanzibar. We wanted to go somewhere weve not been before and wanted a once in a lifetime experience. Plus the kili climb id to raise money for charity.
Other good places to go that weve been whilst travelling and holidays. Fiji islands, Loas is a beautiful country if you want something abit different. borneo is great as others have said. hong kong is great for a city style break, good luck picking something hun xx

we going new york for 3 nights then hawaii for 6 nights. our hawaii hotel is actually located right on waikiki beach and is a whole resort of its own with 22 acres of space in total! great place. we chose these cos i wanted hawaii, have since being a child as i love the place and everything about it. and h2b wanted to b in new york on his birthday which is 2 days after we get married so we decided to have both :D xx

We are going to Mexico, Riveria Maya for two weeks. Cant wait!!! We both used to work on cruise ships and I always said I wanted to go back there one day, H2B didnt mind where we booked. He just wanted somewhere we could do more than lay on the beach. We have never been to Cancun or Riveria Maya, but had our second date in Playa Del Carmen. So though this was perfect, we can visit Playa Del Carmen and reminisce, and visit lots of new places too :O) Sooo excited...we have booked 5Star All Inclusive and after a year of training to be a teacher the idea of an adults only hotel and lots of sun and relaxation really appeals!!! x x

We've got 3 nights in Marrakech from a living social deal for just after the wedding, and then 3 months later we've 10 nights in the Maldives, reason being because we wanted to totally get away from it all and have a proper luxury holiday with pampering and no children running about anywhere!

clbronze - I agree, Malta is lovely. We had our honeymoon there and stayed in Sliema. It was quiet and not many British tourists seem to stay there - in fact there were only about half a dozen in our hotel. We picked there because it was somewhere where none of us had ever been before and the temperature and weather in August was perfect.

We are thinking of buying round the world tickets, we want to do 7 destinations in 4 weeks. We want to see so much and cant decide on one place so we thought we would look into seeing several. The tickets themselves are about £700 each then we will have to arrange accomodation on top of that, so I think it works out middle of the road in terms of prices of honeymoons x

We are going to Tunisia in 6 weeks for a holiday and so excited.... we are going on 5 friends recommendations and they go regularly so really hard to go by other peoples reviews as everyone has different standards. We are staying in a 5* hotel on the beach front and got awesome reviews on Trip Advisor.... my advice would be to read and read and read through reviews on Tripadvisor, our hotel has not had a single bad review so cant be bad and is through TC and one of their 'Holidays with style' so shouldnt be too bad at all.
Our honeymoon will be 2 weeks in Mexico as got everything we want, luxury, heat, beaches, activites, swimming with dolphins, a bit of culture and somewhere we have both wanted to go, very excited !! xx

We went to Hong Kong for a week and then Beijing for a week. Hong Kong becuase I was born and grew up there and there were people who weren't able to fly over for our wedding and then Beijing becuase while we were over there the The Great Wall and The Terracotta Army seemd like a good idea amd I thought Dan would get bored if we spent two weeks in Hong Kong meeting up with people he didn't know for our honeymoon!

Like Kate_B, we're going to Maldives for 2 weeks in September. We chose it after much debate (Italy, Greece, Barbados, St Lucia etc) and the main reason was because we would never get an oppourtunity to go there again! We're quite lucky as my FIL and MIL are paying for it.

1 week all inclusive to Tunisia 4* resort we shose it because we were told we could have £1000 by OH's parents to go after the wedding and we just went to the travel agent and told them the budget and preferred day to fly.
we wanted to go all inclusive as we didn't have to save to pay for food as its all paid for and apparantly 4* Tunisia is 5* eygpt

We're torn.
It'll either be Mexico in August (we get married 2/8/2014) for 2-3 weeks, or else a short 'mini-moon' to the Costa del Sol (where we got engaged) for maybe 3-4 nights in August, and then a 3 week honeymoon in Thailand in November.
We love Mexico, but have been 3 times already, and might go back again next year, so it might be nice to go somewhere different.
