Sit down and think of budget and if you would prefer a church wedding or having it in a hotel, castle, registry office etc.
Once your venue is booked and your date is set everything else should fall into place.

    What are you thoughts?? xx

Hello and welcome Terri :) I was like that when we first decided to get married, had no ideas what so ever about weddings!!!!! Then joined this site and got lots and lots of help and ideas. Sat down with h2b and spoke about what we both liked and didn't like ect..... got myself a folder and started looking on the internet for ideas, putting all these ideas and help into my folder!!!!

You will be fine and like Kirsty said above, once you've decided the church/venue and budget everything else because easier, honestly it does :)

Good luck with all the planning xxx

I am at the same time scale as you. We are having the ceremony and reception in a castle. That is booked and deposit paid. Minister also booked for a 2pm ceremony. We have sorted out our bridesmaids, ushers and best man. And are now going to book cars, piper, live band, look into what flowers will be in seasons and book photographer before the end of the year. Then hold off till about 12 months before we do the rest.

terri i would say after working out your budget i would make a rough guest list so that u know roughly what sort of size u is going to need for your venue, after all u dont want something massive if u having a small do, and vice versa xx

When i started planning mine, i thought of where i wanted to marry and the who i wanted to be there. Once we had a rough estimate of numbers we began to look for venues to cater for our needs. As the other girls say though, you need to have a budget to work off first and foremost.

sit down with H2B and set a budget and write a guest list, then you can look for a venue that will accomendate your numbers and withing your budget. there are lots of websites and magizines that have time plans to help give you a idea what should be booked and roughly by when. happy planning.xxxx

You can google wedding planning and it will give you lists that you can copy for budgets and also the things you need to do and when. They can be a god send for working out what you need to do. I also find having an excel spreadsheet helps to keep me on track of payments made and payments left to pay as well as a guide to the budget of what everything is going to cost me. You can also get in touch with your local registry office and they will tell you all you need to know for the legal side of things as well as give you venue ideas and a list of other useful contacts and things you need to do.

The first thing we did was choose a date, because that is really kind of arbitrary but it has a huge impact on the wedding because it determines how much time you have to plan and save.

Then I downloaded an excel template budget that I found using google that had all the important categories set out already, and started filling in rough numbers to get an idea of budget. Then I did an overhaul of our finances to see how much we could afford to save before the wedding date and compared that number with the total budget! Simples! I opened a new savings account and set up a standing order for a monthly amount.

Then I put things in the order that they need dealt with, as some things need done far in advance - we booked the church, venue and photographer as soon as possible, and you also should think about booking a band or DJ ahead of time if you are having one. Caterers too if you are having them.

After that I opened up a powerpoint presentation file and started sticking in random pictures off the internet of stuff I like or fancy to build up a scrapbook of ideas, and I'm getting things as I go along from the money in the savings account.

    Hope this helps!
