Im a little confused....

U know when u sign the registra thing on ur wedding day? Does that mean ur name changes there and then?
Or do u have to do some kinda deed pole thing?

Im worrying about booking honeymoon - do I get it in my maiden name or married name?

Cos if it was in married name how wud i go abuot changing it before the flight for my honeymoon?

Whats the normal thing to do?

The honeymoon should be booked in the same name as your passport hun, and as far as I know it changes automatically xx

Ahh and do i receive that certificate on our weddin day?
The hotel we plan on going too requires our certificate to prove we're "honeymooners"

you can only use your passport in your maiden name if it is the same name on your ticket ..... some people are told that if you have not changed you name on you passport prior to the wedding but that tickets are in your married name you can still travel if you have your marriage certificate .. THIS IS NOT TRUE .

If booking the honeymoon before the wedding tho,it will be in maiden name tho won't it?

That's what I meant,I thought u couldn't change ur name on passport until u had written proof that u had changed it? Ah I'm getting confused now too...

I was wondering about this I got my passport last year and it has 9 years left on it so do I wait for it to run out then order my new passport with my new name as it has so many years on it Its new I know I'm not getting married till 2016 but my passport does not run out till 2021 my sister in law not ordering here new one till she double barrels her name and think her passport runs out next year then she will get her new passport with her married name on it.

Trust sil to want to keep her surname and add on her married name well there surname is unusual and never heard of it before till I met my H2B so guess I cannot blame her she should of thought of it before because doesn't that mean her marriage certificate will have to be changed to as well as her other IDs??

Knowing me I will want to have my passport with my married name on it so I may not wait till 2021 or 2022 when ever it runs out

Think mine runs out march 2015 so I'll be alright with mine because we're not going away straight after and u can update 6-9 months before and get that time added onto your new passport can't u,so I'll just do that way x

Thank you for clearing that up lala now I'm not confused any more so you can change your passport name 3 months before but its not Valid till you say "I Do" Koolio may deffo change mine then but need the registrar to fill in a form to allow this =D ♥ X

Awk, I don't think it's such a big deal having your passport in your maiden name on your honeymoon really. But then, I suppose it makes sense to change it so you have proof of ID in your married name for joint bank account/mortgage things. I get married in August 2014 but my passport doesn't run out til 2017. Eek!

I've been married 16 months and still haven't changed my passport. I've since been to the USA on the same passport. I have no intention of changing it until 4 years time until the current one runs out.
However, it does leave me with a bit of an issue as I don't drive so don't have any valid photo ID with my actual name on it. Generally people are OK and have accepted my passport accompanied by my marriage certificate (which always sparks conversation as it was issued by Clark County (married in Vegas)!

I was lucky as I didn't have a passport, so booked my honeymoon in my married name then applied 3 months before the wedding for a new passport. If you have a passport in your maiden name and decide to change it, it will cost you the same price as a new passport (around £80 or so).

That's why I'm not fussed about mine, it runs out 6months after I'm married so I'll just apply before and get the extra time that I had left on my passport put on the new one... I need a new one tbh,mines one of the old ones without a chip in,think I was one of the last ppl to get one,then a wk after I got it,it went thru the washer lol..Los it's all crinkled now so I'll be glad to get a new spangly one x
