Well, I have decided that I want to handmade the stds, invites (day invites certainly and probably evening too, but a simpler design) and thank you cards.
We are getting married August 2013. I would like to send the stds out at Xmas as it is a Friday wedding and people will need to book time off to come. The invites I would imagine I would send out in may-ish time.
So, would it be wise to start now? I am planning on a card or maybe a pocket fold style with printed insert (so I could maybe do the insert later?)
Also, should I have evening invites for day guests? Or just but the details on the day invite. We are having aprox fifty for day and double that on the evening xx

I would start now, just because i found i got bored, so needed a break from them. it just means you not putting additional pressure on you. I haven;t done the inserts yet though.
I would also just put the eveing details on the day invite, otherwise you are making more work for yourself,

My cousin is making my invites for me and she has started now! It also lets your spread the cost out - she is putting little flowers on mine so it means she can buy a few every month and slowly get her way through :) I agree with everyone saying the earlier the better cus the first weeks or so you will be all into it and then you might lose your wind!
I think, as soon as we've FINALLY booked the official date, the save the dates willl be getting made and sent out as soon as they are ready. I keep tweaking my guest list though...
I guess once Ive done that, il just crack straight on with the invites, Im not sure when I'll send them, but I'd like them done, and out of the way

we are also getting married in august 2013 our stdcs have already gone out and the order of service made and boxed, the invites are already made, in the envelopes and addressed waiting to go, we made them not long after we booked everything lol we were on the ball xx

I am planning on making my own invites. getting married june 2014, i have started to buy all the bits and bobs and will start making them next month, just going to make 10 or so a month. I dont want to be rushing at the last minute plus like some1 else said dont wana get bored with it

Im starting my invites next month, havent done STD's (did an email & text instead haha) were going to be sending them out in the February with an end of April RSVP - gives me time then for any late RSVP's instead of rushing around doing the table plan & place cards. Oh im getting married July 2013 xxx
