    Hi Ladies

As you are all getting wed the same year as myself when would you say i should start looking for my dress. Venue and registrar is all booked but i have been closing my eyes everytime i walk past the bridal shops as i hear them calling my name.

Is it too early to start looking or just the right time?????

I'm April 2013 and I've already (mentally!) chosen my dress . I'm desperate to go dress shopping, just to do it, trying on loads of different styles just to see if the shape I like will suit me (I need to lose a couple of stone though so maybe I shouldnt judge now lol). I know myself well enough to know I'll probably change my mind a few times over the next year or so and certainly wont be laying a deposit on my dress until the wedding is less than a year away, but there is certainly no harm in looking (and trying on hehe)

We just had a really c*ap day at college (we were both 17)and we had a half day so decided 2 do it! Had so much fun doing it! I absolutely loved the very 1st dress I tried on as well, so why not? I've done it! Hehe!

I have been twice now and got told that I have till November time to get my dress so I can get it ordered in time. They seemed to recommend 8 months if you need to order. Different shops say different things.

    Happy dress shopping!

Mine is just over a year away and I've phoned and made my first appointments for a few weeks time today! I've been trying to hold off for a few months until it was just under a year away! Like people have said, you don't want to do it too early in case you change your mind or lose/put on weight etc! Im so excited about my appointment in a few weeks!

Go have a look now!!! Whats the harm? If you can afford to go looking just now and find the one then its best to get another thing off the very long things to be done and it'll be fun trying on all the dresses anyway lol.

I'm getting married August 2012, and I bought my dress on Saturday. My friend works for in a wedding dress shop so I just went to have a nose about, with no intentions on buying. They have such an excellent range of all different kinds of dresses, hundreds an hundreds of them and a big sale room aswell.

I fell in love with one as soon as i tried it on, so went back on Sat and decided to buy it there and then. They can keep it in the shop for me till next year and get it altered then, as it is a size 12, i am a size 10 at the min but aiming to get down to size 8 so she will alter it more nearer the time for me. Also, as i am getting married abroad, they can pack it into my handluggage bag with all tissue and padding so it doesnt get creased! BONUS!!

    :-D

I also ordered my shoes which come on Saturday and it was recently my birthday and I got diamond ear rings so i have put them away for my wedding day to. People keep saying to me god your getting stuck in there with everything, but most people take about 2-3 years on planning a wedding, we are doing it in 12 months so got to be super-organised! xxx

I dont think theres ever a time you need to go find your dress - theres not harm in having a look - as your excited about your big day - if you found your dream dress im sure they would save it in the shop for you
Myself i havent even gone lookin yet - so stressfull at the minute & waiting to pay off the venue - i cant wait to go & have a look :-) school holidays will be the best time for me then i wouldnt have to go drop kids at school at 9 - then pick one up at 12 - and one up at 3. i dont drive and theres no bridal shops around. so very hard to go out on the look
i did find a dress im in love with that i saw online by victoria kay! i emailed them for nearest stockist. waiting to hear back

I want to get all the more important things out of the way first, invites, chair covers, flowers photography etc then I can have plenty of time to get dress without worrying about anything else.

I get married August 2013 and have bought my dress. Its great having so long as you can check out lots of sales before you decide to pay full price. Got my dress in a sale so I had no choice.

I want to loose weight. I have spoken to the lady in the shop and she advised me to buy the size I am now or one size down, and the dress can be altered down by 2 or 3 sizes if nescessary. Good luck x

    Hi,

I bought my dress in April of this year and I don't get married until next September. I was lucky and found my dream £1500 dress for half price in a bridal shop sale, but we had to buy it there and then and take it off the premises. But I'm taking it back next year to be altered. We booked our wedding over two years ago and I started looking straight away, it's never too early. Have fun!xx

Depends what type of dress your budget will allow for. No problem in ordering a dress that will be made to measure as the more time there is to make it the better, but for a dress thats off the peg then you could look at styles but i would buy anything just in case you change size or shape! xx

I went and had my first 'look' on Saturday. I think I've found the one, but the lady said 'no rush, its not being discontinued for 2 years, so come back in the spring'. I thought that was really lovely, I expected her to put a bit of sale pressure on.
So I'm gonna up my search in the New Year, but I know I will just keep comparing any other dress to that one :-)

September 2013 here, haven't been to try any on yet, but have found my dress on the internet and am deeply in love with it! Am probably going to start looking as soon as I have a bit of free time (that's looking like January though!) because I don't want to be obsessing about this internet dress for the next year if when I try some on I find out that the shape / style doesn't suit me.

If you can hear them calling your name, it's time to start looking. Just remember that you have plenty of time and don't rush into any decision if you are not 100% sure. Don't let any of the sales people pressure you either - even if there is a special offer that expires today, don't let it influence you. There are always plenty of other dresses and there are always special offers somewhere.

Enjoy the process of looking and your dress will find you when it's ready.

getting married in aug 2013, i havent been into a bridal shop to try any on myself (as i know i'd find THE ONE, only to change my mind 6 months later!) I sooooo want to go and try some on though, and have tried 2 dresses on at a wedding fair in london last month so i've had a taster and feel i can leave it for a while.
One thing i did learn from the 2 dresses that i tried on.... i dont think that i know what i want! Before trying on the dresses i was dead certain i wanted strapless ivory and simple... i think im now swaying towards something a bit more detailed, and maybe even lacy!
Defo no right for me to buy know as i feel i would end up with a spare wedding dress by the time 2013 arrives!

The MIL asked the woman if it was too early for me too be doing so as she thought it was but the woman stated that I had picked the perfect timing so I know exactly what style and detailing I wanted in time for the dress to be ordered and any measurements needing adjustment! x

I don't think you need to pick one until next year. Though I'm getting married June 2013 and I already have mine and have done is about 23 months to go, because I loved it and got a really good deal on it. Just be careful not to leave it too long as some dresses that are to be made can take awhile, though saying this even if you pick it next summer that's more than enough time. :P I say go now because it's fun but hey I'm just overly excited.

Have found my dream dress for less than £700 and is made to measure!! Also found all the BM's dresses from the same shop all made to measure too :D Placed my order for the material a it will be a while before she starts making them and purchasing the material secures the order. She never stops making a style either so I can have the style I have chosen or I can change it right up to when she starts making the dresses. Thought i would be laughted out of dress shops but they were all so used to seeing 2013 brides.
Its never too early to start looking and purchase/order if you find THE dress xx

Well done, I bet you're sooooo excited right now :)

I picked my dress really quickly after setting the date a couple of months ago. I really thought I'd have something plain, slinky (!) and sophisticated with me being a bit older now lol and what happened??? The second one I tried is now on order and is NOTHING like I thought I would have and is way over budget!!! Everyone in the shop liked it, the customers and the shop assistants and my friend so I decided that was the ONE! It's got the lacing at the back so if I don't lose any weight it doesn't matter and you can't tell I've got a belly either, it's like a magic dress! It's in two colours and has a train... OMG what am I doing lol ;0)

Feebee i know exactly what you mean,

I tried on like 15 dresses thinking i would want something simple with a small bit of detail and i wanted it to be white and to wear a veil and tiara. Well when i tried on my so called dream dress with the viel i looked crazy. I didnt look or feel like me. The shop assistant pulled this other dress off the rail which is not white or ivory and the moment i put it on and looked in the mirror i knew. Its a different colour and covered in detail.

H2B was a little worried when i told him everything had to change as he was the one who picked our colour scheme but think I think he trusts me haha

No reason why you can't look now, a lot of stores will have end of year sales too so if you see something you like then go for it! I went to 3 appointments on my own before I did the main ones with family members, so I could try on all the different types and see which shape I preferred, made the family trips a lot easier as they all get bored easily! No hard sell, the shops I went into I explained I was just having an initial look, and they were all really helpful :-)
