We are getting married 21st June 2013.

We have booked Leeds Town Hall to get married and our venue.
We have booked our photographer and paid deposit!
We have booked our chair cover woman!
We have started getting stuff off the bay for centre peices etc

We are in the process of booking bar and limos.

When do i need to start thinking about looking and booking the following:-

    1. Flowers?
    2. Wedding Dress?
    3. Bridesmaid Dresses?
    4. Suits?
    5. Cake?

    Help would be appreciated thanks!!

    xx

Am nowhere near as far along as you so I'm sure there are better people to answer this but from what I've read you need to allow time for dresses to come in if ordered and that can take up to four or five months, plus time on top for alterations. Suits, again depends whether you're buying or hiring and what style you want if hiring as some styles can be hard to get at certain times, e.g. morning suits during Ascot etc. Other than that I'm useless to you I'm afraid!

i have all mine booked all ready i have picked my dress but not ordering it till summer, bridesmaids dresses are being made by a local dress maker so payed her deposit and she has drawn up my designs will be taking everyone for measurements soon.

if you know what you want i would say book your suppliers a lot of mine had bookings already i would deffintly be looking around for ideas already its never to early to get your plans started i don't think.

    Thanks thats brill!!

I think i will book in with florist then and i have an appointment Saturday with a dress maker for my wedding dress but i thought it might be too early but maybe not.

Bridesmaid dresses i like the look of them on the bay but i didnt know what the quality would be like.

How far in advance have people started looking for their cakes?

    xx

I'm over a year away from the wedding and have narrowed it down to 2 places. Depends on how much budget will be left. One place is the big fat gypsy wedding cakemakers (they’re just in the village down the road from my in laws- I’m not going for a gypsy look!) or else M&S where prices are actually pretty good value. Cakes from there just require a little bit of decoration but a cake topptr and some flowers will do the trick.

I agree with Terri - get your main bits and bobs and your suppliers sorted out early - you dont need to actually decide the exact flowers you will have on the day - but as long as you find your chosen florist - book them asap as they get very busy! and you dont wanna miss out, we are getting married in August but i had my, florist, cake, covers, birdcage hire, and DJ all sorted by last May! I also got my bridesmaids dresses..........althought thinking about that - i would advise against this....as now i have the situation where 2 of them might not fit my maids anymore ...one is pregnant (which is awesome)...the other has met a new fella and has put on 2 stone since summer!...they both asked me to get the dresses in their chosen sizes ...so i did, but i should have left it to much nearer the time to get a better idea of sizing :S xxx it sounds like you have really made a dent in your planning tho! exciting isnt it! xxxxxx

I started looking for my dress 11 months before and ordered it with 10 months to go, although the shop said the latest I should order was 7 months before but I found it early - once you know your style of dress, start to look around florists, I booked mine 7 months before to confirm her but I'm going back 3 months before to finalise choice of flowers etc.

BM dresses I would look for once you've confirmed your dress style, but up to 3 months before if they're getting ordered in from a bridal shop, you can leave it later if you're buying from high street.

Suits you can look for anytime but the men will be measured up for suit hire 4-6 weeks before the wedding so make sure you allow time for that!

Cake can be any time, if you want fruit cake then allow about 4 months before as the fruit cake needs to mature.

    Hope this helps!

I would personally say that you could start it all now, it will be far less stressful for you to have time to sort through all your ideas and arrangements. I haven't got my dress yet due to me being recently pregnant and not being able to try them on. I had the baby two weeks ago now and feel a little bit stressed about getting it done in time as some of the shops I have spoken to said they prefer about 5 months to sort out fittings and alterations if needed...That's exactly how much time I have! xx

labelle you could order the dress now but a size down from what you are now, then when it comes in (about 4-8 weeks before) they can finish off any last minute alterations etc :-)

@bridalmiss - That's a good idea, I have an appointment coming up next week at the bridal shop. Hopefully I will loose enough weight in time for the actual day. xx

If u planning on buying the bridesmaids dresses from a bridal shop they takes 6mths to complete as well as ur dress, but if ur planning to buy them from a normal department store doesn't matter, Im planning on going to debs in the Jan sales next year to get my dresses cheaper lol xx
