We just set our wedding date last week for 30th May 2013. My fiance just asked if we were sending out Save the Dates. Most people informally know when it is and we won't be sending invites out for a while. Should we still send out Save the Dates and when?? I kinda always thought they were more of an American thing so have no idea!! xx
Looking forward to becoming Mrs MacKay on 30th May 2013!! :)

I was wondering the same thing ! One of my cousins sent his "save the date"'s a year before his wedding, but I don't know if its normal practice to send them at that time.

I sent my Save the dates a year before, but only to the day guests. I will be sending my proper invites about 4 months before the wedding, as i need to confirm rooms etc in advance

As it's around the bank holiday time when people could arrange trips away, I'd send out a save the date around a year or so in advance just so people know - you don't have to send cards, we and other friends have sent them by email to save on postage costs :-)
hay i have sent my save the dates out this week x :) the reason for me sending them out so early is i have a lot of family that will have to travel to get to my wedding so they may need to book hotels ect also my farther in law to b has to book summer holidays a year in advance if he wants time off so it gives plenty of time for things like that to b done

I sent my save the dates just about 13/14 months before, and invites last month, as especially during summer wedding certain companies require you to book Summer Holidays a year before, so it was for this reason.

i sent out save the dates at Xmas still have a few more to send out though. i mainly sent mine as we are getting married a the start of the sumer holidays and we live in a coastal village so accommodation gets booked up really quick so anyone that wants to stay the night really needs to book later this year for my wedding next year or they will be in tents in my garden lol

Think we'll get them sent out soon to our day guests. Will need to choose stationary soon then so that the save the dates are the same as the actual invitations! xx

We are sending our Save the Dtaes very soon. We are getting married on the Friday of August bank holiday so would rather our day guests (family and close friends) are all aware to avoid any of them booking their holiday for then. ] We were thinking of getting some to match the invites but as we cannot find invites we like, we ended up buying some packs from Tes*co. £2.50 for 10 cards with silver envelopes! We figured the date would be written on calanders/diaries and then the card thrown away No hard and fast rule hun, send them when you want to. Some of our family dont know we are booked and when so will be our announcement to some

We sent out save the date magnets about 16 months before the wedding. We got married during the busy season (August) in Gretna - so it gave guests plenty of time to book accommodation, transport, holidays etc. We then sent the invites out about 3 or 4 months before the wedding.

We sent them out a year before because some people have got quite a way to travel and would need to sort out accomodation etc. Only sent them to the day guests though so there was no confusion!

I say the first thing I think of!

I'm sending mine out as i speak. As our wedding is on a Wednesday and 2 weeks before xmas i thought i should give people notice that they need to either book the day off (day guests) or the following day (all guests lol) x
