I'm getting married in July and was wandering when shall I send out the invites? Also when shall I ask for the RSVP's to be returned by?

We worked out how much time we needed to give final numbers to the caterers etc, and added on a couple of weeks for ringing around any stragglers - so we're getting married the first weekend in June, and are asking for RSVP's by the end of March - a lot of our relatives etc are overseas so we're thinking of getting the invites out around Christmas/New Year - that way we can hand deliver a load at Christmas too and save on UK postage :-)

So say end of April, beginning of may for replys. So we can finalise table plan and invite anyone that would come instead incase we get nos. And send out End of January? Does that sound ok? xx

Sounds great to me - I've seen lots of wedding article that say send out invites 2-3 months before your wedding but I think this is too little time to chase people, confirm numbers etc!

I decided i didnt want the stress of running after replys a few weeks before the wedding so decided that our invites would go out 6 months before the wedding then our rsvp's would have a date of 2 months before the wedding this would give me a week or 2 to run after the late ones without too much stress and lets me know numbers for the venue in plenty of time (need to give numbers 6 weeks before) this will also give me plenty of time to sort table plan favours etc.

I'm sending my invites about 6-7 months with a strict rsvp for 6 weeks before. They know I wont be chasing after them so if they don't reply, they wont be catered for. If they can't be bothered to do one thing when I've got the rest to sort then they don't deserve to come lol x

    Hi there,

We sent save the dates out so people knew when it was and sent invites out 3 months before and it worked out fine, but its personal preference. We put menus inside and then included small rsvp cards with little boxes for them put how many of each they wanted (veggie etc, kids meals or half adult portions) and envelopes addressed to my parents. That made everyone seem to send them back very quickly, gave mom a spreadsheet of guests to tick off. Most venues only want details 2 weeks before of final numbers, we didn't hardly have to chase anyone.

I started a table plan in powerpoint and then tweaked it depending on who was coming so you can start that early.

Be warned evening guests tend to send nothing and assume they will just turn up, its hard for catering so just do a rough guesstimate, our venue advised under catering and they were right. The evening guests just pick and most day time are still full after the sit down.

    xx

We get married at the beginning of April. Our final numbers have to be with the venue by the third week in February so we sent ours in October with an RSVP date of 28th January 2012. Plenty of time for them to respond and time for me to chase them up!

When I finally get mine I'll be sending them out for xmas with RSVP by 21st Feb, getting married 21st April, that way I have time to chase. And there are a couple going over seas too to australia and america. I've put RSVP to my website so I don't lose them! and so everyone can see who's coming :)

I must be crazy giving myself only 6 months!

were getting married 29th dec and so we have decided were guna send ours 6 months before and was thinking maybe september or october for rsvp (does that sound right???). just a lot of our guests dont live around here and we have a bargain rate at the hotel so people need to be booking a room if their defo coming. we were planning on sending out std's with the christmas cards this year (if i get round to finishing them- 2 young puppies and wedding planning dont go lol).
the idea of sending a menu is a great idea! about 3 people we talked to all ready have pure hate for mushrooms and we was thinking of a way around that.
so with regards to the evening guests... do you send them an rsvp?
and one more thing... with the rsvp's, if you send a little card and envelope- do you have to add a stamp as well??
    arrrr so many questions x

We didn't send rsvp cards, just gave address, phone number and email address, so people had lots of ways they could reply.
And yes, you ask evening guests to rsvp too hun x

Do you think there would be a better/quicker response rate if you included a stamped return envelope (or even just an address envelope so they only have to put a stamp on!). This is what I'm thinking of doing for mine but not sure. We're having a buffet/carvery and requested that any left overs go onto the evening reception buffett so nothing is wasted. Do you think its a goo idea to have a back up list for the ones who say no?

You can put the envelopes in, but we've just put our email addresses on so we can keep track of who's responded and who hasn't etc :-)
