    So...
I want to know your opinions on when to send out invitations?
We aren't getting married in our local town and there will be a lot of people wanting to stay over the night at our venue. We are getting married on 25th May 2013, but the rooms need to be booked by 31st January and was going to put the details etc of booking rooms in with the invites.
I know people send them out usually about 3 months before, but this would be February and too late to book rooms.
Or do I advise people in an email before invites go out to book rooms? (Wanted to try and avoid this because would make even more work!)
    xx

Send them out with christmas cards possibly? that way then, guests have a month to organise what they are doing and book hotel rooms.

I'd send out save the dates with information about the hotel, etc as soon as possible and then send the invites out 6 - 8 weeks before the wedding.

    Hiya :)
I'm in the same position as you. Venue booked for Sat 5th Oct 2013. Guests wishing to stay at the accomodation however need to stay for the 2 nights that we have exclusive hire of the venue so we are able to recoup some of the cost. I am going to send out the invites to those guests who we have listed as having first refusal of accomodation at the beginning of April, then if they return a decline to the accomodation by mid May I can offer out to the next round of guests in the invites. I know it's a long time in advance but I have family coming from Scotland and Portsmouth and the wedding in in Cornwall plus some rooms are £350 for the 2 night stay so people have a chance to save!

    xx

I think a combo of the above posts - send out Christmas cards as save the sates maybe?

Although to be honest, you could just send them early - save yourself two lots of postage. I don't think people really mind getting a wedding invite early and if you put a note in about the room bookings then you've explained why. It's then up to them if they get organised or if they don't.

I agree sending out save the date cards for them to have the option to book a room. Otherwise, are there other hotels/b&b's in the area? My cousin's wedding was a 2 hour drive away from all the family but he sent out his invitations 3 months before the wedding and we all booked in a hotel round the corner x x

I sent my save the dates about 3 months ago.
I guess people wouldn't mind receiving the invites early, but I just don't know how early is too early?!

MrsG2b, We get married on the same day :-)
I am in the same situation with the hotel rooms. Our venue only has 40 rooms and a lot of people will be coming from out of town. I am also aware that there are weddings either side of our date (our guest want to stay 2 nights!!). I have emailed or talked to most people that I think will want/need a room and given them details of the hotel.

A lot of people send invites out 'early' nowadays, probably due to longer engagements, more in depth wedding planning, etc. The whole reason to wait to send the invitations is to ensure you get RSVPs and so people don't have time to loose them. Have you thought about creating a wedding website, you could put all the information about accommodation there.

Antonia2008, I think I will end up emailing them, but I don't think some people are as good as you or I (I'm guessing!) with reading and actioning emails! Our venue will only hold off 30 rooms because it's a bank holiday grr. If they could hold off more, it wouldn't be as much as an issue.
Not thought about a wedding website SamanthaP91, are they free and easy to do?
My save the date was a video which we made and emailed out, so I'm trying to stay away abit form anymore emails!

I was gonna ask the same thing as I get maried on may 11th next year.Thought I would send them out after xmas but maybe with xmas cards is a good idea...people book their hols early and we sent our save the dates about May this year!!!
Having said that..most have still asked the details since we sent them! They forget or file it away somewhere and lose it.

Think I will send out with xmas cards and put rsvp as Jan 13 as hotel needs numbers and room bookings etc.

I'd send out save the dates or do a facebook group or something to let people know the date adn venue as soon as possible. Then maybe send out invites with christmas cards? That way if people have hard times getting leave or need to really budget and get things sorted then they can :) x
