First of all should i ask there parents if its ok for them to be my bridesmaid first??

And when should i ask?? My wedding is in 2 years time and i've already made a mistake of asking ones of my friends to be a bm and have since changed my mind due to them being useless!

And im thinking of asking my cousins daughter to be a bm and my cousin in question is already my Matron of honor, is this to much to ask?? I was my cousins bm and my mum paid for my dress and shoes and im expecting the same! Im hoping my mum is going to make the dress's so won't cost to much!??

We did a similar thing in that we asked my second cousin, who is 11 to be our ring bearer/paige boy. We asked him directly for the simple reason being tjat we wanted a direct answer from him, saying yes or no, as opposed to everyone else answering for him - not that they would anyway.

So my view is ask her direct. she has to *want* to do it herself, as opposed to being pressured into doing it against her will by her peers.

Ask her mum first, she may not appreciate having to buy a dress.. And I'd mention it nearer the time.. We asked my cousin who was 10 at the time for our first wedding and had to cancel it for money reasons and now this time round we're not having BM's at all, so I had to tell her she can't be.. She's 12 now, but still had a strop xxx

I would wait until nearer the time hun and would ask the parents permission first, and then ask them straight after so it is still their choice and they wont have had time for their parents to tell them what to do (assuming the parents say it is ok of course!). If you ask her first and then the cousin says she cant afford to pay for her daughters outfit then you are causing them upset that could have been avoided. I have had my venue booked for a year and a half now and have been engaged for 2 and a half years and will be asking my junior bridesmaids and flower girls next month when I next see them (so just over a year before the wedding date) xxx

The parents might not thank you for asking just yet... You'd be letting them in for two years of her pestering them with questions about it if she's the excitable type (which most girls do get excitable when asked to be a BM). So maybe wait a while, plus for the other reasons mentioned above too about affording dresses etc

Thanks for the advice guys, i will ask this time next year then! Ask my cousin then if she says yes her daughter straight after! I do hsve a back up idea for junior if she says its too much cost with another cousins daughter that im not as close to!
