I'd say as soon as possible... If you are anything like me, I found that what I expected to pay for certain things and what most places actually charged were two completely different things! As a result it took us about 7-8 months of searching just to find a reception venue that we both liked and have a hope of being able to afford! Considering that nothing else could really be done until the venues are arranged, that was quite a stressful amount of time! Starting early also means that you can think of everything you need without feeling too stressed out about the time ticking away, and gives you extra time to factor in more saving if you find something you love but is over budget.

It depends what sort of wedding you would like. Although, It's always good to be prepared, even if you just do some research and shopping around for now. It's a cliche but time really does fly by! x

well hopefully a church wedding then maybe just a nice little venue for the after party :) but its just knowing where to start with booking stuff , yeah people keep telling me two years goes fast :s x
We have just booked the church for ours, it was really easy. I just called up the vicar of my local parish church, and he gave us an appointment to go down and speak to him. We arrived and he took us in a room, asked us a few questions to get to know us, then filled out the banns sheet. He asked us what date and time we wanted and we were all booked (although my OH had to go back once more with his passport, as he is a non-EU national). Apparently the vicar will be contacting us nearer the time to arrange subsequent meetings to arrange how we would like the service and arrange payment, etc. That is CoE, though, but I'd imagine that a Catholic church would be fairly similar? Just call the church you want to get married in and they will tell you what you need to do :)

I would say sooner finding a venue that suits you and your price bracket is a challenge itself!!

We're having a 3.5 year engagement, and are now over year years into it, and honestly, it has flown by. We started planning a whopping 40 months (!) out and I'm glad we did! We managed to get a good deal on our venue, and it's been nice being able to take our time.
So personally, I'd say you could easily start planning now, and getting the big things like the venue out of the way. Photographers can also book up quite far in advance (up to 18 months out), and bakers and florists can get booked up 6 months + in advance. So yeah, I'd start now!

wow im really nervous now , im going to a wedding fair next week so hopefully that can give me ideas :) , we have a draft of the guest list so hopefully we can go off that for venue size and cost , we are thinking about a posh buffet to keep the cost down xo

I would book your venue and ceremony this year, if you want to get a photographer that would be great as well. If you do start booking this year get out wedding insurance just in case any of the companies you use go bust. We went to a couple of wedding fairs (before we changed to 2015) saying our date is 2016 and some will go "oh well you've got a while" but others will think it is completely normal to plan this far ahead.

You can gett wedding insurance to cover you from 2 years before your date. So you can start looking at venues whenever then book uf you find the right place 2 years to the day before your wedding, i started doung my main stuff besides venue + registra till this jan, getting married july 2015? As then its next year an people take it more seriously. But you can enquire and get quotes before for ideas of cost!

NOW! :D I'm a 2016 bride too and got engaged last September but been planning since last July so it's never too early... You can pay everything off gradually which is easier on the bank balance too :) plus, things get booked up quickly and people are already taking bookings for 2016! Just get looking, emailing and visiting stuff you both like to get ideas. Speak to the vicar when you're next in church and just have a chat about it :) xx

I got engaged on the 1st of march last year. we started looking at venues and booked ours in June last year for 18th july 2016. Like Barbie that is an incredible 40 months of planning. So far I have booked our venue, flowers, cake, venue decor, my dress and picked bridesmaid dresses. We know pretty much how much we are spending now and still have 28 months to save which is incredible as it means our monthly savings are much lower than if we had waitied to start planning.
So i say star now and enjoy a relaxing planning time instead of rushing and being stressed xx

my OH and i have been engaged for 2 years (feb 2012) and agreed that we would have a 4 year engagment the last 2 years have just flew in and today we finally booked our venue TODAY for july 2016 but i personally feel so much more at ease knowing its booked, i would deffo look in to booking sooner rather than later :) xx

You can never start too early. It's too early for some things, like dresses as your tastes may change. You can book some things this far in advance though, and it gives you plenty of time to save up. I know someone who is a singer and who last year got booked up for a 2015 wedding, so people do get booked up early.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

Welcome Faye! :) Set a budget first then decide whether you want a religious or civil ceremony. Following that look at venues and also work out what you both want from your day but most importantly RESEARCH and read up! :) xx

We've just booked our venue for 1st May 2016, but we had been looking since Sept 2013 for something we loved within out budget. Im glad we gave ourselves enough time as we can then have all the little touches we want too. Photographer is on the agenda next, hoping to have that booked by June.
Plus it gives you longer to spread the cost :)
Getting married Sunday 1st May 2016 :)

We are also getting married in 2016 and have booked the Church and Venue as we didn't want to miss our date as there was one we really wanted. We have also booked the car and a couple of other things. I think having at least two years to plan gives you less stress and I for one feel very organised.
